Dear Mr. Sadowsky,

Once again we are approaching that time of year in which I was born. While you have been unable to meet my prior annual requests for a birthday gift of one of your excellent instruments, I am not dissuaded from asking yet again. I do understand that you and your crew are busy and that to run a successful business requires that you have paying customers. That is, you can't just pass out instruments willy-nilly without getting anything in return. It is certainly presumptuous of me to ask for such a gift, but it can do no harm. And maybe, just maybe, one of these birthdays you'll come through for me. What a joy that would be!

As you know, I have great respect for your work and the work of your colleagues at Sadowsky Guitars. Over the years I've had the opportunity to play a few of your basses and a longtime friend of mine has a Sadowsky stratocaster that plays like butter and sounds divine. The evidence of your skill and attention to detail is plentiful. I write this not to blow smoke, but to help you understand why it is that it is worth it to me to make this annual request.

If you do find yourself so moved as to this year decide to gift me one of your fine instruments, I completely trust your judgment on which one. While I would be particularly excited about a 5-string bass from any of your lines with an ash body and maple fingerboard, I would not turn down anything offered -- even one of your g****rs. If you are able to be flexible by making such a gift, then I, too, can be flexible in return by not being demanding about the specifics of such a gift.

As always, I appreciate that you take this request under consideration. What more can I say than that I would take great care of and play often whatever instrument you deemed appropriate for my hands.

Best regards,
--Willie

Roger - if you are listening - why not use this opportunity to clean up your shop?

You must have some perfectly good neck with an odd mark on the headstock that is below your standard to sell, but...

And there's that ET body - is it still taking up space on a shelf somewhere? Spielberg isn't going to buy it.

Put some operational dust-collecting parts together for my worthy brutha - it will help you both out !!

Tom

E.T. - that's great. Makes me want to slap the smirk off his face.

S-Dubs: Best wishes on your b-day. Perhaps the honorable Mr. Sadowsky will reconsider my proposal from last year (or was it the year before?): Set aside a certain percentage of revenue from purchases made by forum members towards a "free" bass for you. I am willing to invest in a couple sets of Blue Label Bright Nickels to advance the cause.

If he would take a trade for The Shirt(Tm), I would be willing to donate it to the cause!! He gets The Shirt (Tm), you get the bass. I feel good about being able to help.

Wow, that time of year again already?

Dear Mr. Sadowsky, I am here to vouch for the character of our esteemed moderator, the honorable Dr. Sweet Willie. He's a great bass player and an even better man. Him being seen wearing out a Sadowsky at some late night gig would only improve your bottom line.

As one of your most satisfied customers, I would not begrudge you dropping a freebie on Dr Willie - who is more deserving than he?

BTW, my beloved Sadowsky (5 string, blond, maple on maple, 21 frets) is still making the uninitiated soundtech shreeeek with glee AND butts shake with groove inspired delight.

I do not know if William can properly take care of such a bass. Did he not throw a CRT monitor at his Nordstrand in a fit of anger?

Yes the years and the requests zoom past at an alarming rate.

Happy Birthday Dr SW, has anyone sent this URL to Sadowsky guitars?

Roger Sadowsky is a member of the forum. His login name is, curiously, Sadowsky.

Sweet Willie has made the "Dear Mr. Sadowsky" letter a yearly tradition for four or five years now, and Roger Sadowsky has responded twice with very cordial birthday wishes, but no wood. He did offer once to buy one for Sweets if Sweets bought one for him.

I not trying to make anyone jealous, but he sent me a Sadowsky acoustic bass last year on my birthday. I only had to pay the shipping costs. I must say, it plays like a dream!

Thanks all for the well wishes. The day is not quite here, but impending.

One forumite, who will go nameless unless he decides to out himself, has sent me a Sadowsky Guitars t-shirt. This was a brilliant and much appreciated gesture. I cannot emphasize the "brilliant" in the prior sentence enough. I laughed and will enjoy the shirt.

Peace.
