we were booked as a fill-in opener for sleepercar, an alt-country act from jim ward of at the drive-in and sparta. the show is a week from tomorrow -- tuesday, 17 june, 2008.

this is very big for us. it's our first time at the crofoot ballroom, which is a fairly large venue in metro detroit. (we're playing in the smaller pike room.) also, since sparta is such a good band and both them and ATDI are big influences personally, it is a big deal to play with and meet these guys.

add to this that it is an all ages show in the height of lovely summer, and i expect a great show.

wish me luck, and if you're in the metro area, please consider coming out to see us play.

thanks!
robb.

The Pike Room is nice. You'll really like it. I saw the Jealous Girlfriends play there.

I've only played the Vernors Grill for open mike when they had it.

The main stage there is awesome! I was only on it once to tune my mandolin.

everyone in the band was on. i made a couple mistakes that i would want to fix if i were recording, but they weren't the type that anyone -- even the other band members -- would notice. we were really tight and we had a good and sympathetic crowd.

on top of that, the room was nice and clean, the soundman was really nice and took about two seconds to make us sound awesome, and the sound equipment was really good stuff that made it easy to hear on stage.

i have never had such a good confluence of good personal performance, good band performance, great sound, and good crowd.

the other bands were really good, too, and it turns out i went to college with a couple of the people in the second band. the headlining band was loose and fun, and really talented. it was the type of show i would love to see more often -- good local bands opening for a national act where each band is at least solid and brings a different element to the bill. it was a great show from top to bottom.

it's a rotosphere tube rotary speaker simulator. i love the tones it gets. the best part is that he has no need for a chorus pedal with it. ;\)

Now that is why I ended up loving the multi-efx units. \:\) Just looking at the picture, made me remember the time when I used (as a guitar player) several pedals on the floor... and how much I hated whenever ONE cable got damaged or noisy, or a battery (if I didn´t got the proper PS) would worn out in the middle of a show... That's when I got my beloved Digitech DSP128 (we´re talking back in 1991) and started cleaning up everything up... Now the mess keeps going on, but mostly racked up gear, controlled via a Rockman MidiPedal, with less possibilities of cables tangling and/or getting noisy or damaged. Heavy*.. but most of the times worthy... ;\)

*: When I am tired of lifting, or if the gig is just not worthy that much.. I end up using a small floor unit, as the RP50 for Gtr... or my newly acquired toy (only months), the Korg AX3B for Bass (which I've found is also useful for guitar, especially on less distortion-oriented gigs.. )

Oh... those old cable-carpet, floor pedal cluttered days \:P
