Hope everything is OK (It *will* be, but as a father & grandfather I understand your concern).

I'm sure all will go well. However, as a parent of two, one 7 and one 11, I understand your concern.
Best wishes for perfect operation and smooth recovery.

I don't think there is anything tougher than seeing your child go into surgery. Mine are now in there 40's but I remember the stress quite well. Have faith that all will go well. I will be praying for your family. Rocky

My sister, now in her 40's had her's removed last week. She's had problems all of her life due to this. The doctor said she should have had them removed when she was younger. My niece, her daughter had her's removed last year.
The best to both you and your daughter throughout the surgery and recovery!

My prayers go out to your family. I have kids around that age, my 2 year old has been in and out of the hospital his whole life. I totally understand how you feel. Hope all goes well

Good luck and a prayer from me. Be glad it is being done at an early age. I have 2 daughters and understand your feeling.

I was 15 when I had my tonsils taken out... she's lucky to have it done at such a young age. Her recovery will be quicker & easier than it would be if she were 10 years older.
Wishing her the best!

My sister is having hers removed on the 24th. I had mine removed when I was 5 as well. I was sick all of the time and didn't eat much. From the looks of things, I made up for it.
I wish her all the best and a speedy recovery!

Ice cream cures pretty much everything I believe from the medical books I have read. Good wishes on a speedy recovery and bugging you to want to drive soon!

Ditto. I would do anything to save my son any kind of pain. It's all part of being a parent.
Speedy recovery!!

I had mine (tonsils and adenoids) out at 5. My mother told me later that the hospital wasn't that clean and none of the people were particularly pleasant or gentle. I remember the nurses and doctors not being nearly as nice as my own doctor. While my experience may have been worse than average for that time, things are much better today. Nurses know how to smile, and pediatrics is usually inhabited by people that care about kids.
As others have said, it's scary as the parent, but it's something you can all get through.
I preferred sherbet. Lots of it.
Tell her you love her. Davo
Best advice. Lots of hugs. Lots of "you're such a grown up girl", and lots of "we love you".
Hope all goes well. Tom

All the best wishes for your daughter!
Ditto again to the parent comments - I have a one year old and a three year old, and it would be very tough to watch them go through anything that caused them pain, but Ice Cream will fix anything!

Piece of cake, much harder on you than her! I'm sure I don't need to tell you not to show her your anxiety. It's "No big deal, honey; you go to sleep for a little while, you wake up and your throat's a little sore for a couple of days, and you get ice cream. And then you won't have those crummy old tonsils making you sick anymore! Yay!"
In the interests of full disclosure: My oldest boy had an inguinal hernia repaired at about age 6. Though I had the same procedure at about the same age (and a tonsillectomy a bit earlier), I didn't sleep the night before and paced the hospital waiting room until they came out to tell me he was out of surgery and doing fine. Just another rite of passage for parents!

My prayers sent. I have had 1 child have his tonsils out. No major drama but be warned it is a much longer recovery than I thought it would be. He wasn't goo to go for almost 2 weeks.

The only time I underwent surgery was when I was 32.. so I must say it was quite recently, and in a very uncomfortable place of my body for that, by the way (funny way to discover how George Clinton would be right.. free your mind.. and your *** goes to the surgery room! hahaha!!!)
Now... after being diagnosed with Diabetes at 32 (which was the main reason for undergoing surgery, long story short), it is nice to know I can also have my tonsils out, since there is already Splenda-sweetened Ice Cream.
So... best wishes, may it be a short adventure, and one that you may all remember with happy thoughts!. Have a huge keg of Cherry-flavored Ice Cream on my name! (None on that flavour available for us diabetics around here. )

Thanks all for your prayers and wishes. We are finally home after 10+ hours in the hospital. We would have been home much sooner, but she wasn't interested in eating/drinking and the nurses were getting concerned that she might become dehydrated. Eventually, though, we convinced her to eat more ice chips and she finally went pee, so we were allowed to go home. She was REALLY grumpy when she came out of the anesthesia, but overall, I guess everything is going to be ok.
Edit: And daddy held it together pretty well too. Only teared up once!
Edit:Edit: Yeah, the doctor said some kids have a rough couple of days, and some have a rough week. She's not supposed to do anything active for two weeks.
