I just was researching and from what I've found, you need to look at bottom og uitar to see how many pieces were used, often its difficutl to tell from front, back or sides. Most say they have 2 pieces on their standard, but faded models can be 3-4 and many say their reissue is only one.
I just looked and I can see 4 pieces on my faded.I still am unable to distinquish my standard to be only one piece, but from others say they are usually 2,so I guess I don't know for sure.

I just assumed my standard was a solid slab of mahogany. where would the pieces be glued together so i can look for a crease?

I've found that its easiest to distinquish on the bottom edge of the guitar much more so than the front ,back or sides

Subject: sg guitar bodies?
Is there a difference in the Gibson sg's as far as how many pieces of wood are used on the different sg models?
How many pieces of wood are used to contstruct the follwing:
SG Standard?
SG 61 Reissue?
SG Special Faded?
Thanks

Hi,
The SG Standard uses 1 to 3 pieces. The SG 61 reissue has a 1 piece body. The SG Special Faded is a multi-piece body. Thanks!

Just an aside... the necks are all seperate from the body on evey SG that I've seen or owned. Most necks include the headstock, some are joined at the headstock.

Why?

My two Ibanez Artcore guitars have a three piece neck and there is a joint at the headstock.
There are some guitars made with 5-piece necks.

I think part of it may be cost...and the other may have to do with wood economy. The Artcore guitars have rather large headstocks. It would probably take a real large piece of wood to cut the neck as a single piece.

Also...in most cases, a multi piece neck is stronger (allowing it to be thinner) and resists warping better than a single piece neck.

May I ask the nature of this inquiry?
