I love that color...just not on a Les Paul. On a Strat, yes. On my Reverend, definitely. Just doesn't look that good on a LP.

I like this green better than that blue they had when first introducing the Robot LP. I don't think it looks that bad, really. But as always...to each their own.

I'm sure they're putting the robot guitar in those kind of alternate colors to differentiate the Robot from the standard issue models. Kind of like a red sports car compared to a gray sedan.

We must be looking at different pictures.... 
Forest Green Metallic? I love it!
They definitely want owners of the robot guitar to feel their guitar is unique from other Les Pauls beyond the technology. Also, it immediately identifies these guitars to other knowledgeable players when they see them on tv, on tours and in clubs.

i'm not really a fan of this finish. on higher-end guitars i like to see translucent finishes that showcase the grain of the wood, rather than cover it up (see PRS or Carvin).

Of course, Asplundh is probably the LAST name you want to see associated with a nice cut of mahogany for a Les Paul. I have seen the results of their work on my street - not much left of any wood they got a hold of!
Oh, the wood is all still there; it's just in lots of ittle teeny tiny pieces instead of one big one...

My thought was if they are gonna have a "robot" guitar, why not do it up in robot colors? How about like Joe Satriani's Chrome Boys, only in gold, and call it "C3PO"? Or just chrome like the Satriani guitar? OR, all sorts of colors over shiny chrome?

I agree with you 100%. Pearly Gates is the prettiest Les Paul of all time, in my opinion. I too, had a tobacco sunburst Les Paul that was stolen 30 years ago. I talked my buddy into buying one last year. Well, he also happened to like it! I am now living through him, vicariously! I'm saving up...
