I know that they've been discussed here before off and on, especially the hollow body ones. But Mike Gug's post in another thread brought them back to mind. Since they're touted as being the actual manufacturer for half the guitars in the world or some such, I thought it would be an interesting thread.

Anybody have experience with the MB Series (Strat clone)? The MB30 (S-S-S) and MB50 (H-S-S) seem especially interesting with their Alder body and Duncan Designed Pups for a very reasonable price. The AV series (LP clone) also, with the Mahogany body and HB's. They also have many other series that offer things not so run of the mill.

Also, they have an acoustic line that looks good, on "paper".

Let's hear about your Samicks! Or... even why you did NOT buy a Samick. Even just miscellaneous ramblings are welcome (as I often do anyway )

I don't know much about the newer Samick guitars. I have an SAT650 (335/Sheraton II clone) and I love it. I have seen the AV series in stores but didn't pick one up for some reason. I've played a few others, and I was impressed too. I think they make good stuff for the price.

What actually got me started on Samicks are the older ones (pre-Greg Bennett).

I have played the MB's and the LP copies. Both played nicely, but the PUP's are candidates for swapping. Since I love to modify (as much as my budget allows), I don't mind buy a good-playing axe with less-than-great PUP's.

The PUP's in my Royale semi-hollow were Duncan-Design and did a pretty good job. I put SD Phat Cats P-90's in there, and now I just can't get enough of this guitar going straight into my Peavey Classic 30. It's a killer sound. The neck PUP is my least used PUP however the clean is really nice. Positions 2 and 3 are pure rock.

Here's my mental picture to describe what position 3 sounds like - are you ready for this? - if you pick up a handful of gravel and through HARD it against a cynder block wall and THAT could somehow make a sound where you could hear every pebble make a sound like a guitar string to create a guitar chord, that's what it sounds like... to me. OK, it's strange.

Regarding Samick build: I've always liked it. Now with Bennett designing, it takes it up a notch. Good wiring and pots. Not boutique I'm sure, but much above entry-level. Cool engineering ideas.

I've never had issues with playing Samicks (we have a large store in town that sells mostly Samicks). Some play less-than-inspiringly, but they never fall apart like entry-level Epiphones have in my experience.

If you can get a good-playing guitar cheap: buy and modify.

Don't know about Samicks, but I've played a few decent Korean Corts lately.

I have a Samick bass that, after comparing with a Fender P bass at the store, came up the winner and went home with me. It quickly became my favourite bass guitar.

I have a Samick acoustic bass (Greg Bennett Regency) and if their acoustic guitars are as nice as this bass then they must be pretty good. \:\)

I own a JZ-4 which I bought used off of E-bay. The previous owner had better pots installed and a Kent PUP along with a better bridge. I think it's a terrific guitar, esp. for the price (I paid $600 for it).
