Is anyone else familiar with that girl named Orianthi?
Wow! I have the crossroads 2007 vid, I wonder if she`s on it?

I know *of* her, I found her page once while surfing MySpace. She's doing alright for herself, by all accounts. Nice tone, too.

Anyway, nice to see Al playing electric. I'd read that he had abandoned electrics due to hearing problems, but I guess one short solo doesn't make much diff.

Another recent(ish) Al Dimeola video.

Yeah, it is nice to see him still playing, and well.

Also, to tie into a recent thread: notice the barre "F" chords he was so casually (and rapidly) throwing in there?

Yeah...I checked out her page too.

She obviously plays guitar very well...but...mmmmmmm...I dunno'...the music on her MySpace page doesn’t really grab me. One or two tunes had some personality...but otherwise it's kinda' homogenized sounding.

Then again...maybe her goal is to showcase her guitar playing, and not so much the songs themselves...?

AFA Al DiMeola...very cool!

There was another YouTube vid where he gives a lesson...and he talks primarily about timming...very good stuff.

Hi KF! I didn’t know about this hearing problem, but yep, he still continue knocking out with his technique picking

Buen dia, fesquell! \:\)

Yeah, it's in Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Di_Meola

In various interviews, Di Meola has stated that his reason for stepping away from the electric guitar is due to hearing damage (manifested as tinnitus) from years of playing at excessive volumes; the acoustic guitar does not aggravate his condition.

But the article doesn't list its sources for the hearing problems thing, so it may be true... or maybe not.

She's got just about everything going for her does she not. She is young, very pretty, writes well and can play the ass off her guitar. You don't get to play with the likes of Steve Vai, Carlos and others in that league unless you have something going on. Give the girl a couple more years...she is going to make a lot of guys jealous as all hell..... especially those who know they could not hang with her on guitar. That's when all the negative comments start flying.

Yeah I think she has a great future, like that young girl Tal wilkenfield who played bass for Jeff Beck!
