My grandfather provided me with an amp about ten years ago. It was used in their gospel quartet, based in southeastern Kentucky. It is an all-original 1969 Fender Super Reverb. He was completely flippant about it since he isn't a guitar player himself, and he was a bit unable to understand why I was completely flipping out.

Well, last weekend I got the guitar my uncle had used with that amp, and I am on cloud 9. I knew it was a Gibson ES-series semi-hollow, but I didn't know anything else about it. I thought it was about the same age as the amp, so I was stoked. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the guitar is significantly older than the amp. This thing is an ES-225 TD with a pair of P-90s. That model was only produced from 1955-1959. Tracking by serial number, it appears that this guitar is a 1958 or 1959 model (haven't nailed it down for sure yet).

I'll tell you this: this thing sounds SWEET through that amp!

Pics to come....

Man oh man who wouldn't love something like that being passed down!!

Most excellent that it's a TD with the dual pickups.

That's just too friggin' awesome, DracheCool!

I've got an old '67 Fender Pro Reverb, and I'll never forget how it sounded and felt when I played someone else's '52 Les Paul (with two P-90s) through that amp. I think I have a pretty good idea how your guitar and amp sound and feel together!

That is awesome, DracheCool!! Looks like you have a great family heirloom. You can't be a P90 equipped guitar. Bet it sounds killer thru that Fender!! Happy picking.

Found this on Google. Is yours a sunburst or natural?

AWESOME!!!

What truly makes it awesome imho is not the guitar itself and its value and rarity, but that it was passed down to you from a relative. I can't think of anything that would please me more.

Unfortunately, my relatives played piano.

Not letting (the wrong) people know it exists is probably much better than insurance. For the reason I stated above, the money would be secondary.

I've had FAR too many guitars stolen (ONE is too many). Others knowing what and where they were was the primary problem.

Chris what a great story and like the others I anxiously await pictures. Just the sentimental value alone makes it a great story. The only thing to top it would be if he said "it's in the trunk of that old Packard in the garage, help yourself..."

That is so sweet! I never really knew my Grandad. That would be such a treasure simply because it came from him. He's gotta be smiling from ear to ear seeing how happy you are to get it.

Maybe one of my Strats will be vintage one day and I can give it my grandkid. That would be way cool.
