A lot of collectors here along with gigging collectors.

When I played at clubs and toured, I normally only carried 3 guitars.

How many do you tour with? Cover bands I would thnk have to carry more effects then originals. I was lucky to have a Wah, sustain and chourus.

If I'm play guitar I would take 2 - currently that would be my Strat & Tele. If I'm playing bass I'd take my 5 & my fretless.

I don't tour, but I usually bring two axes to a gig - a Strat and something with either P-90s or humbuckers.

I've not gigged alot, but I'd take at least two. One as a backup in case something went wrong.

I haven't gigged much either, but when I do, I always take 2. If I break a string or something, I don't want to have to fool around with it, just grab another one and go.

I really gotta start bringing two guitars. My Samick likes to break strings (mental note: check for saddle burrs).

I can absolutely POUND on my Strat and no longer break strings thanks to my new bridge - 2 years ago (mental note: when my hand hurts and/or bleeds, strum with less force).

For my free improv duo I had been carrying a semi-hollow Ibanez with mini-humbucker for the more note-oriented Jazz-toned pieces, & my single coil trem Blake for the textural ambient pieces. But with 2 racks, a pedalboard & 2 speaker cabs it's just too much gack to carry, especially for a cramped coffeehouse, so now I just bring the PRS, which doesn't do either warm Jazz tones or single coil-ness, but is a great playing axe.
I believe I've broken a string exactly once on a gig in the last 40 years, so I don't worry much about backups in case of problems. I once snapped the power cord on my Farfisa organ when walking on stage for a theater gig & was able to re-conceive the entire show mentally to be playable with just guitar & percussion, then was able to fix the power & hit the downbeat in time to do the show normally. After that I got much more into improvisation.

I don't tour either but I generally bring 2 or 3 guitars to a gig - 1 Strat and 1 or 2 Les Pauls.

I don't have a 2nd Variax anymore, and I don't usually break strings, so only one these days. I used to bring 4 or 5 axes to gigs, mainly because it was neat to have all my ladies out where I could show them all off. But I still don't think it was too psycho to tell myself that this or that particular song wouldn't sound right without this or that particular guitar...

I'm in a classic R&R dance band and we play 3-6 times a month. I usually take 3; Les Paul, Strat and a backup for the Les Paul.

ever since i got some new pups in my RG and got them set for coil-splitting, i now only have to bring that, cuz i can get all the tones i need out of that, from high-output bridge 'bucker to some flutey strat-y tones. the other guitarist brings his main guitar and a POS backup in the off-chance that something on the guitar breaks.

Scott, wow You go back with me Farfisa. I haven't heard that name in ages. They were one the keyboard to own!

When I gigged I would have 3-4 guitars. Sometimes more. Usually my '64 Strat, the Les Paul, a Strat type with a humbucker and a Floyd Rose and a Tele.

It looks cool walking in with two gig bags, one over each shoulder and carrying a guitar case in each hand. That's the only reason I did it...cool factor......heh!

Kidding. Between the guitars, the Marshall 100W and 4X12 cab, the Fender Twin Reverb, my rack and pedalboard, my cable and accessories bag AND trying to drink a Corona.......load in's and load out's were a bitch. And in Hollywood it is go go go getting on and off stage. I hated slackers........right after the band before had ended I would be hovering and making it obvious to them that they needed to get cracking...LOL...in a nice way of course....I would even offer a hand to get them the hell off my stage...

If I take this one church gig offered to me, it'd be my trusty Alvarez acoustic and one of my mandolins. I'd bring the Fender Precision, but they already HAVE a bass player! Maybe the flute once in a while!

And once I get a good electric (jonesing for the Carvin Holdsworth model Fatboy) I'd bring it too.

I'm not like you guys who have a dozen Strats and a half-dozen Les Pauls!

I've been "looking" (on-line) at Samicks lately. I played one in a store a few years back, the Formula FA2, a Tele Nashville clone and loved it. As a matter of fact, before that I didn't even know about the Fender Tele Nashville.

I'll start a new thread HERE re: Samicks so I don't hijack this one. ;\)

I play keys, but double on rhythm guitar for a few tunes when I play with cover bands.

I bring one guitar -- American Strat with the HH configuration and S1 switch.

If I broke a string and was dumb enough not to have a replacement on hand, I could always "borrow" the lead guitar player's backup axe ;-)

"Daddy, what was a Farfisa?"

The very first rehearsal for the very first band I was in after I started playing guitar, the keyboard player had a Farfisa. The first song we practiced? "96 Tears" by ? and the Mysterians - what else?

Today if I was in a working band, I'd be using a Variax. Knowing me, I'd likely have two.

Assumimng a name brand quality amp: Unless you abuse an amp, and as long as you maintain your amp, there is likely not going to be a failure. Now, shit certainly happens. It would not hurt to drag a spare. But unless you drop the thing, the most logical replacement/repair that will be needed would be tubes.... so carry a set of spares. If you really are afraid of that burnt cap or resistor, or failing transformer, take a spare amp.

That's a whole lot fancier than my Farfisa. I have the MiniCompact. Just three registration tabs & three tone tabs, plus the deadly "Multi Tone Boost". My first keyboard. I had it tuned, repaired & brought up to spec a few years ago for a Kronos CD & it still sounds just like a Farfisa. Wonderfully cheesy.
