Just came across this today...

Tyler in Rehab for Foot Pain, Not Drugs

LOS ANGELES (May 30) - Steven Tyler checked into a rehab facility in search of a "safe environment" to recover from several foot surgeries and physical therapy, the Aerosmith frontman said in a statement Thursday.
Tyler said the surgeries were to correct long-time foot injuries resulting from his physical performances as the singer for the blues-rock band.

"The doctors told me the pain in my feet could be corrected but it would require a few surgeries over time," Tyler said in the statement. "The 'foot repair' pain was intense, greater than I'd anticipated. The months of rehabilitative care and the painful strain of physical therapy were traumatic. I really needed a safe environment to recuperate where I could shut off my phone and get back on my feet."

The 60-year-old was known for heavy drug and alcohol abuse in the 1970s and early 1980s, but completed rehabilitation in 1986, after which Aerosmith enjoyed a successful revival.

Can't help but wonder about the "if", but that would be good news.

Either way, I wish him well and do NOT envy him the hyper microscopic and intrusive scrutiny attended to him by the media- and "the internet"...

Might could be he wanted the pain medication to be administered by medical staff in a proper medical facility, rather than having the obvious temptation of a bottle of pills in his hand. Sounds like he's doing the right thing.

That was my thought as well. If it takes him doing it in a rehab facility, he should. That's whatt they are there for...

I'm really glad to hear all that. Sounds like he's got his head, "on straight".

Too bad that people will still always think the worst of him though. Part of the additional pressure that stars get that I had mentioned previously. Although... with drugs there's plenty of (general) history to suggest that many, not ALL, do fail.

Yup, I know some guys in recovery who won't even take an aspirin unless they're being monitored by a doc...

If that's what it takes to stay sober, straight and alive, then he gets major props from me!
