I do. I host an annual event for another forum every year. We spend three days jamming and shooting out gear, teaching each other recording secrets and just guitar playing stuff in general.
We generally have a full Pro-Tools set up, drums, bass, piano.....and all for the extremely high price of $35 at the most.
it's kinda like a Rockstar weekend.
You guys ever do that?

Stratotopia is actually Bowling Green Kentucky at the moment!
I think I've done 4-5 of these things now. We have one in 3 weeks. Pretty fun. And like you say you get to meet someone and find that they are misrepresented on these damn posts!

What forum is that and are these jams just with members who live close by or do people come from a ways off? What kind of turnout do you get?

Trucks & I once got together, and, hopefully, we'll get it together again in the not-too-distant future.

For sure Geoff, hopefully we'll get a motor sorted out soon and make it up for a BBQ over the summer.

I live in the same city as Rob Rose, who hosts a Thursday night jam here that I hate to miss. I've also met Guitarzan and his family in Nova Scotia, and we got to a little jammin' there, but you're describing an event of some scale.

Funny this comes up now. I have talked to a couple other regional forumites about hooking up sometime late this summer in Chattanooga. But nothing is firmed up yet so I haven't "officially" made any type of announcement on the boards here...but stay tuned!
Yeah, we are all really scattered about the globe so it makes it kind of difficult to arrange a get together. Interestingly, my wife's drum forum has an annual gathering in Indy each year - we made the 7 hour drive up there last year to participate - probably about 40 people showed up, so that was really cool...even though I was greatly outnumbered by drummers!

Geoff and Trucks. I have to try and meet up with you guys this Summer. I have no major holidays planned.
I organise London jams for members of the Lowdown bass forum (sister to this). We haven't had any guitarists yet, I took a piccolo bass last time, but we've had keyboardists from KC and friendly drummers. I don't think any regular on here is based in London though. OH, Matt Stevens, we can invite him next time.

There's just six of us from the now defunct AOL Guitar forums. We're from various points around the U.S., nothing within easy driving distance for any of us unfortunately.
This year, due to high fuel prices/air fares and various real life issues, we won't be getting together, which sucks, but hopefully we'll get it together again next summer in either Miami or San Diego.

Like Phil W I've attended jams with local forumites from both LD and KC, but not GP. What's up with that?

The forum I go to is called the Wateringhole. We are basically a bunch of people that used to worship at the alter of line 6 and then got discouraged. We left there site and started our own.
We try to do weekly or semi weekly jams via the internet. Generally someone makes a backing track and we all do our own thing over it....thought it is sometimes done by taking the collective work of all and making something cool out of it.
The turn outs are generally pretty small 10-20 people. But that's enough to have playing for the weekend. Everybody gets to do whatever they want. Several of us are multi-instrumentalists so it's easy to cover all the bases.
We generally average 4-6 people on stage at a time depending on whats going on. That helps keep the noise level down a bit.
We rent out my school for the weekend and have the run of the place.
Guys bring their own gear and we mix it all together and I generally only have to rent a drum set and a few floor monitors and a power amp. I can generally pull the whole thing off for less than $300 and have managed to get things cheaper and cheaper every year.
A buddy of mine owns a music store and he has sponsored us before supplying amps such as Bogner and Orange for FREE!
I generally have some guys at the forum that can't make it and send money anyway and that drives down cost.
The figures for this year just got under $20 per person for this year and we are still a couple weeks out from doing it.
These forum members come in from all over I have a guy from California coming this year and it's his second time. Eat coast wise.....New Jersey, Pennsylvania area. Had them come from Texas, Alabama. There core of the people tend to be from Ohio and yeah we have some local guys from my state.
