It's disappointingly discordant to hear such a good song, expressive musically and in delivery, and then to have gratuitous profanity slimed into my ears, the last refuge of those who cannot express themselves. It’s just a "stoopid moove." Though those who do not mind profanity will not miss its absence, those bothered by it will be prevented from listning anymore by its presence.

Bush saying he is the decider is more profane than some dumb word. George Carlin says hi.

Making a point means sometimes being pointed. The facts of art. Ironically, Prince no longer curses, because he is a Jehovah's Witness..lol

Frank. Mark these NSFW. It also clues in people to not be playing this when kids are around.

A bit of a rocky start indeed. Have a look through the rules and then please come back. You wouldn't be the first person to have a rocky start an then wind up being part of the family here for years afterwards.

It’s just a "stoopid moove." Though those who do not mind profanity will not miss its absence, those bothered by it will be prevented from listning anymore by its presence. I respectfully disagree. I believe Prince specifically invokes these words because these words have very strong connotations attached to them. They arouse at least something in people, and that added personal arousal of emotion I think can add to the song. In your case, as in many, use of the word arouses disgust, but it still provided you with an emotional reaction to the song, which I think was the point. Some older songs can invoke curse words to express the extend to which they feel about something without talking around it. Its more direct, which can be shocking, but it is, as i said, intended to shock. In a lot of modern rap, however, cursing is gratuitous, pointless, and meaningless. Some older hip-hop (see Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet) uses curse words to express frustration over race relations during that time period, as the album was about exacerbation of racial tension.
Feel free to add input, I always like to hear another point of view.

On the one hand, I can't see that the song merits such strong language. On the other, that's just my opinion: it's Prince's song and he can do whatever he wants.

Erm... yeah... but there's also that e-mail going around asking people to complain about some artist whose latest show consists of letting a dog starve to death. Sure, the exhibition gets a rise out of ppl, But Is It Art?
And if you're going to throw the "m" word around like Prince does, doesn't that just wear the word out?
