Where are all you people going? First time there? Why did you choose that spot?
I'm heading to Sanibel Island, FL with the family this summer. I was there for a day as a kid, but I've never stayed on the island and neither my wife nor kids have been there either. The kids have not yet been to Florida.
Heading for the ocean and the beach and the relaxation, but the great shelling broke the tie between Sanibel Island and other potential locations. Sanibel Island is one of the best shelling beaches in the world, and my kids will LOVE that. Also, the island caters to families and not college kids, and at this stage in my life I've already done the spring break college kid thing. I prefer quite family places these days. I can do without "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" at 3 a.m.
So, where are you headed?

Going to Aruba with the family in June. Staying here for a week for free. Hooray for Marriott points. dB
Cool. Except that now that I read "Aruba" I have that Kokomo song in my head as that's the first word of that song. Oh well. There are worse songs.
First time to Aruba? Why (other than Marriott points) did you choose there? I'm curious because I hope to have many more years of vacations ahead of me. Sounds like a fun trip.

I'm going to the Himalayas in India for five weeks.
I'll be going to Ladakh first, then Dharamsala. After that, I don't know, as the trip is pretty wide open in terms of time.
I fly back and then hop on another plane going to the even more exotic locale of West Virginia for a week, going to Harper's Ferry, Charleston, etc.

Taking the kids to Washington DC to do all the normal stuff tourists do in Washington DC (museums, monuments). They're the right ages (11, 8) to enjoy it. If we can get in, we're hoping to see the Bureau of Printing and Engraving (where they make money), as I've never been there even though I've been to DC tons of times.

I'm locking myself in a room for a week and spending all my time browsing the KC.
Seriously though, I'll probably not be vacationing this year. Too damn expensive.

I work where/when the work is, so a change of scenery is like a holiday... I'm in Vancouver this week and return here in early June for a couple of dates.
I'll be in Chicago, Milwaukee & Minneapolis in a couple of weeks with friends - have plans to take in some baseball games.
Vancouver Island in early August for some r&r before a two week stand back on the mainland in Vancouver.

I'm like kanker. We won't be vacationing this year. First it's too expensive and second our kids are old enough that they don't want to go anywhere with Mom and Dad. If we force them to go, they'll make our vacation miserable and if we leave them at home they'll probably destroy the house while we're gone.

Camping for a week with friends who have a permanent lot & all the trimmings, and maybe Gaspé, or Quebec City for their 400th year celebrations. This last winter was a killer, so we're saving our pennies to go away somewhere tropical next winter.

I'll be in the Outer Banks in August with the whole Fam Damily - kids and their cousins etc. Great time, we do it every year. We get one of those big ol' houses with the jacuzzi and the pool. Walk to the beach. BEER. Nice!
dB, I was in Aruba for a cruise stop-over and remember it being windy. If you're into kites, that is the place to be. You can use a LOT of line - hundreds of feet. Cool place.

Going to Seattle for a few days in mid-july, then off on a ferry to Vanocuver Island for another few days. Sans kids !
Pretty much striaght ahead tourist stuff with the wife. Also try to spend alot more time at the lake house in Wisconsin this summer. Of course I'll bring along the GEM.
Just got to figure out how to get more vacation time.

Cool. Love The Outer Banks. We always stay in Buxton (close to the Hatteras Lighthouse) when we go. I've been there 9 times.

Monterey Historics racing in Laguna Seca, Reno Air Races, have a gig in North Carolina, and am off work for that. No big vacation this year, next year it's back to England and Germany. Instead of blowing 4 grand on a Euro vac like a year ago, I'm spending money on things like car repairs, a new S90ES, my teeth, a new racing helmet, etc. I also want need new live sound gear like a Emx 5016, sick of my Mackie poweramp and mixer.

I have to see how the money plays out. I would like to go to San Diego or the So cal area. There seems to be many things I like there, and a few things I don't. (Fakers, Dodgers, Kings, Avengers)

Yep. Aruba is interesting like that: There are 15-20 mph trade winds that blow almost constantly in Aruba, and it's also a near-constant 85 degrees F every day of the year. The best thing about Aruba, however, is that it's below the hurricane belt, so you don't need to worry about your summer vacation being washed out by a big storm. (It's also got gambling and topless beaches. What more could you want?!?!)
By the way, Dave, as an employee of Marriott, we thank you for your business!

Oops, forgot to answer Stepay's question:
We're going back to the Outer Banks as well (Corolla) in July, and then we're doing a long weekend in mid-August at a friend's house near Breckenridge, Colorado. I gotta say: The mountains in the summer may be even better than the mountains in the winter.

Not my idea of a vacation but since my wife and kids want to, I'm doing our "poor-man" vacation; taking the family to LA on frequent flier miles and hopefully making it work related so hotel, car and my food is paid for. Seems like they're tightening up on travel so I may have to foot the hotel and food myself this time.
Hmmm... I wonder if there will be any vacant houses to be had, maybe in the Thousand Oaks area?

I don't know where you will be on the "Outer Banks", but if you can tear yourself away from the beach, bear, and babes long enough to play tourist with the family, you might want to take a ride up to the northern end of the Outer Banks and check out Kill Devil Hills, the place where the Wright Brothers experimented with gliders and later flew the first powered airplane. There is a huge sand dune along the ocean (several of them for that matter) that is over 100 feet high. I understand the Wright Brothers used these dunes to test their gliders before they came up with the final design. I flew my hang glider off that dune, just for the hell of it. Back when I was last there (late seventies) there were people flying off those dunes every day. I don't know if they allow it anymore.
There is also a tourist building that has replicas of the motorized airplane that Wright's flew (the original is in the Smithsonian) as well as one of their gliders and other interesting tid bits from there era. Very interesting for the kids, if not the adults, if you can stay sober long enough to enjoy it!

Mike, Thanks for the tip. We were down there for the 100th anniversary of the flight in 2003. That dune is huge. There is a lot to do down there, and we've done a lot of it over the years: ATV's, golf, saw the wild horses etc.. One thing I will NEVER do again, though, is climb to the top of the Corolla Lighthouse. I thought I could overcome my fear of heights for a short time to take in the view. Well, that ledge may as well have been 6" wide with a 10" rail because I was out of there and down those steps in a matter of seconds. Regards, Joe
