I am sure we all have experienced losing the rubber end-caps off the X-stands.

Now that my rig has grown, I need to pull at lease one out of retirement, but I hate playing on them with out the rubber feet . I have two Quik-lok stands and wanted to at least make them useable. I need three sets of four, but I can't find anyplace that sells those endcaps (I even went to the Quik-Lok site and saw nothing).

Anyone know a resource where we can find little, simple stuff like that?

Surgical supply companies. They carry all kinds of stuff like that for hospital equipment.

I've found crutch tips at Walmart that fit but that was years ago.

Have you contacted QuikLok support? They've got an 800 number on the website...

This question came up not long ago and I recommended Rubber Parts 'R' Us. Have you tried them yet? \:D

Actually, I think that writing an email or calling the manufacturer of your stand would have positive results. Have you give that a try?

Regards,
Eric

If I were in my normal, slightly sarcastic mood, I might suggest that I don't see any parts shown on the Honda website, but I'm pretty sure I can get a replacement side mirror for my Accord from them... ;\)

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Sven/Eric, I actually just called Musician's Friend (thinking they of all sites would be able to service this type of request). They weren't any help.

I then decided to call Quik-Lok directly to inquire who would sell these parts and how much, etc. Lo and behold, they took care of me directly and promptly..at NO charge. I gotta say, I am impressed.

Good to hear. Ultimate Support has always been that way; glad to hear QuikLok is reading from the same playbook.

Try McMaster-Carr:

http://www.mcmaster.com/

You can almost build a satellite from the stuff they have in there. They take visa and ship same day.

Here's the thread where I first made the recommendation. A good read with similar end result.

eric, you and your recommendations.

This has nothing to do with the OP question.

Just for that, you can stand in the back of the room.

Shame on you.

Crazy Glue. Cheap, and it works well. Don't get any on your fingers.

If you happen to have a golf club repair shop anywhere near you, call them and ask if you can buy/have a small amount of grip tape. Those suckers will NEVER come off... ;\)

(here's a short YouTube video on DIY golf grip installation, so you can see what I'm talking about. )

I wonder if calling Peavey would work for my amp stands. They're made by Peavey, and I'm missing 2 feet.

Let's see, my post (#1942581) came BEFORE Eric's (#1942602). I'm getting the sense that some people jump to conclusions.

Don't be so hard on yourself... but perhaps a few minutes spent reading through the entire thread might be helpful, and save you from foot-in-mouth disease.

Apples and oranges. My comments were about referring people to an alternate source of end caps. That information remains valid although the OP found what he was looking for elsewhere. If it's of no use to you, oh well.

Over and out!

Mike, I thought about crazy glue. Not sure how good it will work between rubber and metal, though.

Sven, great link. Looks easy. I am sure I can find double sided grip tape at a sporting goods store, right?

Not sure about a generic sporting goods store, but you've got a bunch of places in the Philly area: I'd start with Dick's Sporting Goods, they're a full-service outfit, and will definitely have the tape. It's worth a call around, though, if that location's not convenient.

Crazy glue works just fine between rubber and metal.

Try Amazing Goop--any type, but the Sports and Outdoor stuff is good. It's room-temp-vulcanizing, meaning that when it cures, it stays somewhat flexible, which is helping in a rubber-to-metal attachment.

Never happened to me since I stopped using an X stand.

Speaker stand feet, on the other hand, are most of the missing mass of the universe.

Yesterday I emailed Ultimate requesting to purchase an endcap for one of my X stands and they promptly emailed back that they will send one to me for free. Smart business...

Which reminds me of another good customer service story... I bought a Kensington laptop case about twelve years ago and after four years the handle broke. They send me a replacement (and an upgrade) for free. Last year that replacement's zipper broke and they sent me another bag for free. Companies like these should be applauded...

Ya.

We've had this "LongStanding" discussion many times... ahem.

I've got both the Apex and the Ultimate Support Double-Braced Signature X-Stand.

The Apex is great for gigs where I'm standing. I still use it. I still love it. It packs up great and I make it look cool when I'm standing behind it.

But it's murder trying to find space for pedals.

The X-stand is for sitting. It resides in my comfortable man cave studio. It's sturdy and does a fine job.

But it's murder trying to find space for my pedals.

I've looked at the other stands out there and none of them thrill me enough to swap. There are people right here on this very forum who have complained that they can't get these stands to cradle their keyboard at the right playing height. Others complain that they're cumbersome and heavy.

Frankly, I think we should STAND UP for our right to choose - and obviously that should be the one that makes eric look the best when he's performing. Those who know eric understand that this is a moot point because his SHIRT will grab your attention and make his stand look, well, INVISIBLE.

Me? I'm holding onto an original Ultimate Support A-Frame stand in my closet...

Just in case they come back in style.
