It's been 10 days since I last had a cigarette. Have I officially quit? Or am I jinxing myself?

Any of you who are looking to quit smoking, seriously, check out Chantix. I smoked for 22 years (well over half my life) and this stuff made it practically effortless - one day, I ran out of smokes, and didn't go buy another pack....

I quit 2 years ago this month.

If you tell yourself you quit for good , you quit! ;\)
Congratulations!

The single best thing you can knowingly do to improve your longevity and overall health is quitting smoking.

Personally I made my quitting part of an overall lifestyle change
which included eating better and exercising. Some report weight gain from quitting, with proper diet and exercise it won't happen. What also seemed to help me was chewing alot of gum (sugarless only!). Quitting also greatly improved my singing!

Of course, I've turned into what I used to hate the most - an anti-smoking crusader. Now I wonder why I ever started especially when I smell it on people or on my clothes after a gig in a place where they allow smoking. Fortunately smoking is banned in most of the places around here.

You're done with the smokes for good, keep it up!
Congratulations!

Haven't had a single puff in 12 years... \:\)

Just hang tough.
I remember after I got past the first week...I never looked back...BUT, you have to really WANT TO quit!
I sorta' quit a few times before that...and was off cigs for 6 months one time...and then picked them up again.

But this time I haven't even had the urge once in 12 years. I can't even be in a room with cig smoke anymore...

There is ALWAYS a point of decision when you go one way or another in such things; try to remember that, and make a deliberate choice.

It isn't necessarily easy- but there is a choice, every time.

Best of luck to you, too! Hang in there!

Two weeks is about what it takes to break the physical addiction, the mental addiction can last quite a while longer and submarine you if you are not vigilant. And rationalization is your enemy (any excuse will do...).
Congrats, keep up the good work. I quit in 1980, after being a two to three pack a day non-filter smoker. Spend the saved money on a new axe!

Nice going Griff!

Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done. Took me a few tries and the second to last time, I fell back into it after two years as a non smoker, just because I wanted to see what it tasted like. After one puff and I was back. This time, I know better. The one thing you have to do is never touch another cigarette. It can sneak up on you, even after two years!

It's been just about seven years for me and I no longer have any problems. Bill's words cover it very well. Watch out for the tricks your brain will play to try and get you to smoke. Ignore them and keep doing what you are doing. you will breath better, sleep better, taste food and drink better and best of all, live longer.

Hang in there, stop by here often to let us know how you are doing and remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I have around 8 years, smoked for over 30 years, two packs plus a day non-filters for a very long time......I feel great...I could smell again after a few months as well as really taste foods, my productivity went up 300% my energy level increased big time....... just overall fantastic the benefits.

What Bill said.

You will save more than just the price of a pack or two a day.......everytime I went into a 7-11 to buy cigs or a liquor store I would pull a $20 out of the ATM. I would buy the cigs and also see a magazine I wanted, a soda pop...a candy bar...pretty soon the twenty was history.

Next day...another twenty......

I never go in a 7-11 anymore and hardly ever use an ATM to withdraw.

So basically you can think of it as $20 a day almost....at the least say $15 with two packs of cigs, soda, donut or candy bar etc etc

You've already saved $150 maybe $200!

This would be around $7000 a year.......I have saved about $50,000 so far give or take AND I have great feeling lungs and respiration....did the breathing test recently and had a chest X-Ray that was clear.

Congrats...please don't stop....keep it up. One day at a time.

Good luck Griff! I smoked for about 15 years and like Craig, tried several times to quit. I wanted to, but wasn't quite ready. Finally one day I just decided that I had had enough, and quit cold turkey. Haven't had one in over 7 years and I am so glad, especially for my kids sake. The first week was really hard, the second week was easier, then after the third week, it was downhill from there. I felt like complete dog sh*t for about the first half of the first week, then felt better and better each day. The thing that surprised me the most was that I had no idea that my clothes, my car, my house, my fingers stunk sooooo bad! Sometimes I have to fight the urge to grab one from a co-worker, but I know if I did, I would probably puke my guts up-and I hate to puke! It doesn't bother me being around it, but, no thanks, not for me anymore. Good for you for quitting and good luck in your efforts. You will be glad you did! Feel free to PM me if you need any support.

Local radio host says "You quit when you took your last cigarette whether it was two weeks ago or two minutes ago. Now are you going to choose to start up again with another one?"

A lot easier said than done, but he had kicked the habit, too.

Hang in there buddy! \:\)

From age 15 to 21, I smoked 3 packs per day.
I steadily burned the top of my amp, head stock of my guitars. \:\(
Finally I quit and after only 6 months of stopping, I felt so much better!

I had to occupy my time though because quitting smoking made me nerveous and so I had to keep on doing things to keep my mind off of cigs.

I started jogging and geez....you wouldn't believe what came out of my lungs...for 6 months! \:D
But after that, food tasted better...even the air smelled better.

Take it one day at a time and turn it into weeks and then months.
You do that, and you've got it licked! \:\)

Once you're not hooked anymore, you start to wonder...what the hell was I thinking. \:D
Hey, start adding up all the money you're saving. Now that's a motivator in itself.

Good luck and let us know how you're progressing. \:\)

Randy
