This would be a nice piece of gear to compete with the S90ES. Not a full-blown workstation like the Fantom X8 or G8, but a full-blown rompler/synth engine with the new Ivory Feel keys plus aftertouch, including SRX and ARX expansion, smaller footprint, plenty of real-time knobs/faders and some other goodies like pitch/mod wheels and lever, similar to the A70/90 series. I suppose this gets pretty close to the RD series and might cannibalize some G8 sales, but I believe they could differentiate it in terms of picking up the gap between robust controllers mixed with synth engine and the wonderful new Ivory Feel action.

Would anyone else be interested in this type of product?

Regards,
Eric

I would love it....but I don't think it's going to happen. The S90ES is really the only game in town for what you're describing.

Sure, I didn't buy my X7 for it's workstation features anyway.

An S90ES competitor would be good. As it stands, Korg and Roland must believe such a KB would cannabilize their synth workstation and digital piano markets.

During the 80s, it would have happened. Maybe a smaller company i.e. Waldorf or similar will rise to the challenge. Kurzweil might have something with the PC3.

Yeah it would be nice. But not like an XV-88 which has no patch EQ or Master effects section. Just a combination of the best live performance features of the RD and Fantom wrapped into a new package weighing under 40 pounds and 48" long.

It's all been done already on one Roland or another and would be simple to accomplish if there were enough live players among us to justify it.

I wouldn't want something similar to an S90ES, which is hardly the perfect model for live performance (issues with weight, length, voice switching, live performance real time editing). Unfortunately Nords don't have brass and string samples which are needed. I now nothing abut Kurzweil but will check out the PC3 series when they hit the stores. Maybe there will be something there.

I'd love a Korg perfomance synth with no sequencer, but ability to load samples, 8-15 insert effects, audio input for processing with internal effects, smooth patch changing, several foot switch inputs, and ability to play back mp3 files while switching through multiple multitimbral setups.

Yeah..in my dreams..
