Does anyone know who this guy is playing organ here? His phrasing is wicked. This is an Etta James clip:

I'm guessing here because I didn't see a good clean shot of him, but possibly Mike Finnegan. I talked to him maybe a year ago and he told me he had been doing Etta James, Michael McDonald, CSN, and some others. I've seen him with EJ, MM, and with his own band. He's one of my favorite guys and I love to hear him sing.

Listen to him sing Barnyard Blues. Bad dude. He plays here from time to time in the lounges and I always go check him out.
I think rich is right . That clip is on his site

Both guys are fine players.
Tasty Mike Finnigan track here, on a recent sampler of pop/jazz/funk/blues organists: http://www.amazon.com/Organ-Ized-All-Sta...10526828&sr=1-4
Finnigan has been a great singer and organist since about 1966.

Yeah I found out later that it was him. I play with the Legendary Dukes and he is on our friends list. He used to bump shoulders with our old keyboard player that I replaced, Ralph Gillote. I never realizied talking to him he played with Etta James. Man he has great phrasing. He knows how to fill spaces perfectly.

Any organist that played with Hendrix is A-OK with me.
I first heard about Mike back in '72, when Finnegan and Wood's "Crazed Hipsters" album was circulating amongst all my musician friends.
A year or so later, we met and became friends with Jim Kreuger, guitar player with Dave Mason, with Mike in the band as well. I saw Mike at a couple of Dave Mason shows - Dave would give Mike a feature vocal once a night, and he would absolutely tear the house down every time.

Tasty playing for sure. Classic Finnegan. We used to cross paths a little in the 80s, mostly when he'd show up in Shoals on somebody's record. Good guy, great player. Not my favorite Etta song though, by a long shot.

Beside playing on Hendrix's Electric LadyLand album I caught up with Mike later on The Dave Mason album. I just thought his playing was great on this disk. It's a bit of a poppy disk for Mason but very good IMHO! Mike just plays nice parts and comes up with good ideas on the tunes. Solid playing.

That is an awesome Etta song, probably one of her best.

Yeah I have a different version with Rhodes playing on it. It is from the Live in San Francisco CD from 1980 which I found kind of by accident. It is also shorter than the version at House of Blues which is about 10 minutes long.

Have to admit that playing clav and organ along with Etta singing "Standing on Shakey Ground" is a guilty pleasure of mine. She f'ing rocks. Coco Taylor is another great blues singer.
