Unbelievable condition - a steal if it's the real deal.

After a quick perusal, I'd say it looks legit. I'd have to see it in person, take the neck and pick guard off to check the hand signed info inside, and to check the electronics for any soldering changes, etc.. However, it looks pretty good.

I've seen a bunch of old Strats. I've only seen one that was in better shape than that one. It's a beauty.

I'd say the case has been played with more than the guitar... That Strat is too damn pretty... Still outa' my wallets reach...

I have a friend who's father has a original 1956 Strat that is in factory condition. The dad played in a country band and always played a Epiphone jumbo body with a added on pickup,he bought the
Strat when he decided to learn how to play country lead. He was a singer mostly and never really carried on with his lead work. It is in the original case and is spotless! The son will not sell it, I've asked lots of times.

That eBay 55 is missing a knob. NOT a huge issue, but it is.

Lee....can we slip in his basement window? He'll never miss that '56.

Man, that is one sweet looking geetar. Haaaaay now I have a question.. Why does this 55 have a cool skunk stripe in the neck, whereas the 62 RI doesn't? Did they stop doing the skunk stripe for a while?

The truss rod is under the stripe on one piece maple necks. On the '62 the neck routed for the rod to go under the RW board.

Ohh ok Cool, thanks. I had always thought (well, guessed) it was a strength thing.. So a maple neck and fretboard is actually one piece? I haven't ever owned a maple fretboard guitar, so not really looked up close before. If so, I didn't realise that.. I suppose it would be part of the brighter sound of a maple fretboard? :-)

My 56 has the same stripe, an inlay of mahogany.

That's not the original string tree, unless they changed it to a much older looking part in the 56 model.

Scott

The original Fender string guide was the round one as seen on that '55 in the auction.

Fender went to a "butterfly clip" mid 1956.

An original knob from that period should only cost around $2000-$3000...if you can find it!

I think I've seen original late 50s Les Paul pickup rings for around $10,000 each.

That's the one my 56 has. Thanks for the clarification, Don.

I think that the round string holders were OK. I've never heard of any problems.

Maybe they just couldn't get them after '56, or the supplier increased the price....who knows. I've never heard any actual reason for the change.

All sorts of small details can and do vary over time in any guitar's lineage.
