On May 28th I am bringing my son to see Van Halen. He is a guitar player now (better than me) and he is actually excited about it, in the beginning he wasn't interested but after listening to their music he is. I'm probably more excited than him but I remember my first VH concert and what it made me think about guitar. I'm wondering how he will walk away from it.
I have put off seeing Buddy Guy a couple of times but this is the year I am going to see him, it's about the only show that I am really looking forward to along with VH.
I'm not seeing much happening on the concert circuit that draws me in. I have never seen Eric Clapton and he is a maybe. I plan on sticking with a lot of local Blues acts and jams. I seem to get more out of local acts than mainstream these days. The ticket prices are just silly.
Who's on your calendar?

Sounds like a good night to be had! :-) I am no huge VH fan but I wouldn't mind seeing them play live it should be a great show.
I always make sure I get to the John Butler Trio when they come over here, but no UK tour dates as of yet... It's a great live show. But other than that there doesn't seem to be a whole bunch going on at the moment that I would be interested in (paying a fortune for :-) ).

Govt Mule, at a small venue, in August.
It's funny, this summer I don't have many shows I'm going to......usually I have at least a handful.

Well, I've already gone to the two shows I was looking forward to this year. As some of you know, I went to the John Sebastian/David Grisman concert.
Last Saturday, I went to see Don MacLean. His show was even better than I expected. Don and his band played for 2 hours without any breaks. His backing band had a great sound (there was a drummer, a keyboard player, a lead guitarist and a bass player). It looked like the lead guitarist was playing a Les Paul and the bass player was playing a Fender bass. They looked to be using Fender amps. I did not recognize the guitar that Don was playing, but it had a gorgeous sound.
I am thinking about seeing Bela Fleck at the end of this month. A friend wants me to go with her, but I am not really familiar with the music, only that I heard that he is an awesome musician.
Near where I live, there are some free concerts that I might go to, which are:
Dennis DeYoung and Styx Bo Bice (from American Idol) Peter Noone (of Herman's Hermits fame)

Huey Lewis & the News is playing here this coming Saturday night and I'd love to see them, but we're leaving early Sunday morning to L.A. & San Diego, so I won't be able to make it. If we weren't travelling with the kids, I'd go, but it could be a bit of a chore with them. But once we get there everything ought to be just fine. I can't wait to see the look on my 1 1/2 year olds face when he sees the "real" Mickey Mouse...he loves Mickey!
Anyway, back to concerts. I just found out this weekend that Chuck Berry is going to be in town this June. I sure would like to see him, he is, after all, a rock-n-roll icon & forefather. But I'm not sure if I will go.

Try as hard as you can to see it. I saw him play with Chick Corea last year in April, and it was one of my favorite shows ever. If not, at least buy The Enchantment.

He's on the Gov't Mule DVD/CD "Deepest End", and he is awesome. He fit in perfectly with the Mule. I'd go see him, whether I was familiar with the music or not. Should be a great show. If nothing else, you'd definitely get to see some fine musicianship!

You both will have a great time! VH is playing right now at the Meadowlands 10 mins from my house and I didn't go - boy am I mad at myself! Now I'll have to spend big for Garden tix next week.

Return to Forever in August.
I just purchased a bunch of tickets for a series of classical and ethnic concerts in February and March.

Return To Forever in Atlanta...tickets came in the mail yesterday!!
I had a front row seat a few weeks ago for Rush, so that was pretty special.

I am seeing Gov't Mule on July 19th, I forgot about this one but I am going to the Mayhem Fest with Slipknot headlining...should be a loud day...I'm set to photograph some of the bands but I don't know if I will get access to Slipknots set, they would make some nice pictures...

I saw VH in Las Vegas in December and they did a really good show. I was surprised at how well David Lee Roth and Eddie interacted on stage. Wolfie was entertaining too as much for the "Deer in the Headlights" look on his face as anything. It was funny watching Roth chase Wolfie around onstage swinging his mic stand at him too. We were joking that Wolfie was probably thinking "Daaad, Mr. Roth is chasing me again!! " Probably the best show I saw last year in terms of sound was Death Cab For Cutie. The guitars sounded incredible! So I'm going to see them again here in a week or two when they come through.
