The strings I use now will only string through the bridge unless some silk is removed. That's how I roll.

You're a bass that goes both ways.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

My bass has one 1/4" jack... it's for output only!

Its going to be tough to determine whats best for me. Changing to through bridge while changing to new strings isnt a fair comparison. So a test recording the bass after new strings (thru body) and then string bridge thru and record and compare is the only real way Ill be confident theres any difference. If I like bridge thru, then shucks .I would expect the strings to be too short/ dented near the tuners after installation. So I need to decide on a string type, buy two pairs and control the amp,the pots on the bass and my playing technique virtually identical, then compare recordings. That may not happen soon(or may),the frustration tells me to just play that bass .

Thank you for trying to bring the thread back on topic. What you're getting at here is that proving there's a difference requires science?

I am not so scientific but practical with this issue. If I need to change a string while doing a gig, it has to happen very quickly. The through bridge or body solution is not an answer to me. That is why I use only bridges that are opened so that a string can be changed without taking it through any hole. Check for example this drop-the-string-in -bridge:
http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tai...es.html#details

And remember, metal parts are very solid and even in terms of material quality compared to wood.

If I wanted to be superscientific, I would try to find that special wood or material and body shape and placement for the parts for my instruments to get the best out of the whole system. But I will let somebody else do these calculations, tests and theories...
