I love "Why Get Up." I haven't thought about that tune in years, a band I was in back in the late 80s used to do it, always got the crowd going... And you guys do a good job with it!

Nice licks on "Why Give Up".
I think the male LVox is a bit too loud overall, and the female BVox can come up a bit...it would really fill out the harmonies...she's a bit weak now.

"Shelter Me"...during the lead, the drums/rhythm should be punchier, as it will help drive the nice guitar lead that much better.
The female BVox could be louder on this one too.

Nice classic 70's Rock sound...with just a touch of Southern Rock flavor.

I'm currently visiting family with s l o w , snail-paced dial-up, but as soon as I get the opportunity to log-on via a high-speed connection, I'll check 'em out, Picker!

Till then, this post serves to bump up your thread, and to more easily enable me to quickly find it again via the "My Stuff -> My Posts" drop-down at the top of the 'page...

Very good, Picker. If that is your Variax, it sounds great! Killer licks & solo on "Why Give Up". Next time we get up to the KC area, I'll look up where you are playing. I'd love to see you guys live.

You guys are way kind. Thank you for all the encouragement.

Yes it is the Variax znd the POD XT Live. on "Why Get Up" it's a Les Paul Special model with both pickups on through a somewhat "pushed" Marshall Plexi. On "Shelter Me" it's a Les Paul bridge pickup through the same Marshall with a Tube Screamer model pushing it a bit harder, and some tube Echoplex model. I realized today that I had the output mode set wrong; I forgot to change ot from the combo amp settiung to the one for a studio board, andf it had an unpleasant upper midrange rasp, like it's pushing a horn diaphragm too hard. I wanted to do it over, but the harp player simpoly would not hear of it. HE says it's one of the nest solos he's ever heard. So, Bryant the bass player/recording engineer and I went to work on it with some compression and a parametric EQ, and used the mixing function in Pro Tools to level a rather troublesome transient peak right at the beginning. Pro tools is amaing stuff. I can see how you could get caught up in it and just never get done tweaking this or that on a track.

THanx again for all the kind words, dudes. Y'all rock, you know?

I just gave it a listen and I have to say it is very nice indeed!

Like it has been said before, the levels between vocals and various instruments could be improved but the playing and singing are first class! Great guitarwork!

Yeah Picker...I hope you didn't take my comments about the vocals the wrong way.

With all the time I've spent screwing around in the studio...I just tend to focus on all the little stuff that would improve the overall song. \:D
The singing is good...it's just that the levels seem off a bit.

also gotta watch those stretched pictures...

I think it was the only picture we had of him to use. There will be another one eventually.

Why Give Up really rocks, Picker. Shelter Me is pretty good by I definitely prefer WGU of the two.

Nice pickin'!
