I'm in the middle of building a "hybrid" Strat. I want my 5 pickup options to be:

1. Neck
2. neck/bridge
3. Middle
4. Middle/bridge
5. Bridge

Can anyone point me, on the 'Net, to a wiring diagram that would show me how to do this, or maybe possibly email me a drawing? Thanks.

Dunno why you'd forgo the neck/middle(my fav for rhythm). I DO know that some TA's have a switch that brings the bridge into play with any position. I think Fender has something similar as well.

Yup...they're right.

But...I think I saw a strat style guitar that's already doing that.
You might could get the pick up selector that's already wired that way.

I'm not sure if this is any help, but my G&L S-500 strat has an expander switch that gives the following options :

* Position 1 - Bridge
* Position 2 - Bridge & Middle
* Position 3 - Middle
* Position 4 - Middle & Neck
* Position 5 - Neck

With expander switch:

* Position 1 - Bridge & Neck (same as position 5)
* Position 2 - Bridge & Middle & Neck (same as position 4)
* Position 3 - Middle
* Position 4 - Neck & Middle & Bridge (same as position 2)
* Position 5 - Neck & Bridge(same as position 1)

The schematics are here .

The neck & bridge option is a great idea, makes it sound like a tele in the middle position.

Cheers.

This is ideal - 7 tonal settings - my old Tele has the same amount of voicings.

You might want to look at the different Fat-O-Caster switches. It will give you those options and many more (up to 11 or 12 voices - also look at the Memphis mods).

http://www.deaf-eddie.net/switches.html

OR

You can just use mini-switches

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wir...3on-offswitches

OR a push/pull to activate the bridge in any position

I did install one Fat-O, but only ever used the neck/bridge of the expanded options, so it just seemed it would cost less (although Fat-Os are very fairly priced) and less work (I don't have a gift for wiring) to just do a neck/bridge mod. I may do a "neck on" with a push/pull switch...

I think I have a winner for you - just that the combos are on different positions of the switch. Read the last post in this thread:

Another push/pull type mod

I still like having three separate toggle switches for a three pickup guitar. Every possible combination is right there, including all three on, which none of the above mentioned switch schemes seem to do.

I have the three toggles on my BC Rich ST III; it's ok if you want to add on additional pickups, but you can't do a quick Ritchie Blackmore switch from just neck to just bridge. That's a little more awkward. Throw in the series/parallel switch for the bridge humbucker, and it can take too long to switch to the "perfect" setting in a song.

Yeah, the Fat-O-Caster will do that, Scott; and you replace a tone control with the selector switch and the guitar looks stock.

I think the Fender S-1 Switching does. As I understand it, it turns on the bridge pup when the neck and mid are on... hence... all three. ;\)

But... I have always liked the idea of three pups.. three switches. \:D

Oh OK. A sales guy at Sam Ash tried to explain the S-1 switch to me & just confused the issue more.

I have two Steinberger clones with that switch arrangement & it just makes so much sense. Having a secondary switch in combination with a 5 way knife switch just doesn't feel very intuitive to me.

Yeah I can see that being an issue in rock song forms. I do fairly free form improv stuff & I just pick a tone & go with it. If there's a need to change, there's always a lot of open space to do it in.
