As in right this second (minus time to post, of course).
I'm working on "You're My Best Friend" by Queen for a wedding in a couple of weeks.
What are you playing or learning right now.

Right now (well not right now, I am posting/writing a term paper)I'm trying to chart music for my friend's band. I've been getting the inclination that I might be tapped for bass duties in the near future, so I have been spending some time going through their LP. It's a little challenging due to their C# tuning, but I am slowy progressing.
As far as 'real' songs go, my spare time has been spent on Iron Maiden's Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Right now: nothing. I was just thinking earlier today that I should pick some random stuff to learn just for the hell of it. Recently I've spent a few afternoons with the radio on and learned everything that came on while it was playing. That's a fun exercise to do.
I'm memorizing the melody to Ornithology.
I used to know the entire "All Bird" Aebersold book along with most of the songs Charlie Parker 'borrowed' the changes from. I should learn all that stuff again. Great book to know.

Since I'm in a band playing a genre of music I'm not familiar with, almost everey song is a learning experience. Although I have a few songs memorised and know the melody for most the others, we're still, say, six or seven songs of a full three set list. Right now, it's "Green Dolphin Street", "Black Orphes", "Black Coffee" and "Until It's Time for You to Go" - two Bossas, a blues and a waltz. And I tell ya, I'm really diggin' on that waltz

Ornithology, cool. That's on my list. I tried to play the melody the other night. I spent a whole summer on Blues for Alice and Au Privave once.
I'm trying to learn Miles Davis' solo on So What. The A sections are deceptively simple but beautifully phrased. I'm having problems playing the B sections smoothly enough though.
Bassline-wise, I'm listening to a lot of songs that I cover (and have covered for years) and actually listening to what was played on the original versions rather than just doing my take on them.
I'm listening to a lot of Aston Familyman Barrett (Stir it Up, Three Little Birds) and Paul McCartney (Come Together), whoever played bass with T Rex (Get it on, Hot Love, Telegram Sam) and Trevor Bolder with Bowie (Ziggy Stardust, Suffragette City and Rebel, Rebel)

Throttleneck- Brad Paisley I'll have to slow the song down to catch some of the fast changes in it.
Three Minute Positive Not Too Country Up-Tempo Love Song- Alan Jackson Almost done with this one, the transitions from the walking line back to the root-5 still need to be smoothed out.
I Ain't Living Long Like This- Waylon Jennings I'll have to get the TASCAM Bass Trainer out for this one. If the line is playing octaves all the way through at that tempo it will take a while to get my fingers to do it.

Well, I only meant THE song you were working on the moment, but since everyone is listing most of the stuff you're working on, here's the rest of the list I have to learn by Tuesday:
You're My Best Friend - Queen (almost the entire song is above the 12th fret) Blackbird - I'm supposed to solo over part of this. I'm thinking fretless maybe. Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper covered by Quietdrive - really cool I Just Called - Stevie Wonder - we're supposed to come up with another arrangement, but not sure how that's going to happen I'm Gonna Be - The Proclaimers - how on earth did this song get popular???? Open Arms - Journey Paradise City - GnR Thank You - Bon Jovi You Really Got Me - Van Halen (easy, but a heckuva lot of fun - my favorite cover by Van Halen ever)

Sadly, I never work on one song at a time. I always flit from one to another, that's how my brain works. I did spend three days on the So What solo but last night I flitted between cover tunes for Saturday (as above), and Stratus and Red Baron (for fun) . . . as well as playing a bunch of jazz walking lines.
Right now, I have Rebel Rebel playing (in my head) as I work through songs for the cover band.

The bad news: a band I'll be working for just sent me 85 songs to learn.
The good news:
a) I already know 15 or 20 of them.
b) the gig doesn't start until June.
c) there probably won't be any rehearsals... sweeeeeeeeet!!!

I got a late call for a latin funk gig tomorrow night. Not exactly my forte so right now I'm deep into Oscar Stagnaro'sTHE LATIN BASS BOOK . A couple hours of tumbaos ought to set me right. I hope.

I remember being called upon to lay down a mariachi groove in the studio once. Scary, since I didn't know what that was.

At rehearsal last night, the 'tones started working on 'Oh Well' (an ancient Fleetwood Mac song ca 1969), a new Allman Bros. song (whose name I forget) and Buddy Miles' classic 'Them Changes'. We'll modify them and 'flem' them up enough to 'make them our own', thus making sure no one will ever want to hear them again.
On an up note, got another street-festival gig offered. Obviously they haven't heard us before...

We'll modify them and 'flem' them up enough to 'make them our own', thus making sure no one will ever want to hear them again. Yes - a nice coat of flem works for you guys Let me know if you remember the Allman tune - we may do it. We do a nice (and sometimes too fast) version of Them Changes. We let one of the guitarists go off for a while on the solo - it's one the songs he gets to work out his late 60s stuff (and his wahwah pedal). We do the riff 4 times at the end, slowing down halfway through the last time to end it.
I've got a crop of new and almost new tunes. I have to play them by next weekend, and I haven't put bass in hand for the new ones yet (though one I messed with years back). Each has some challenges.
Don't Fear The Reaper - the part has lots of notes, and he varies how he plays it (so my listening tells me). That lets me off the hook a bit. I have to sing the low harmony on the first two verse lines and do the "answer" for the "call and answer" stuff. Should be fun. We're going to try bringing our percussionist out front with a cowbell, and have the singer stop the song once for the Walken reprimand. Just once - we'll see how that goes when we play out the end of May.
Fell On Black Days - I messed with this years back. There's one part that I'm not sure about - can't tell if he's an octave low or playing 5ths (my son, who has a topflight ear says octave, but I'll accept wisdom from the board).
Hourglass (Squeeze) - I was excited when someone suggested this and I started remembering the song. The bass part is very easy in the refrain and I can sing the part "take it to the bridge, throw it overboard...". Then I started listening more closely to the "pre-refrain". What I thought were simple arpeggios are not. I cheated and had my son chart it for me, and it looks more like an exercise. Seems like he plays the arpeggios up then down, but not the same notes, then plays a different inversion for the next chord (with the same up then down being different). On paper it looks like there's a hand shift every three notes. I will be able to get this (he said hopefully), but it will take some work. It's something that I'll be very happy with when I do get it.
Tom

Please, a sound clip when you think you and the Stone Fly gang have it nailed. Please.
