Didn't know about a new Scirocco...but there is a new "Passat" coming out this year, only here in the states they are calling it the "CC" (Club Coupe).

Thet took the Passat and lowered it, stretched it a bit and extended the "C" curve...plus some other upgardes.
It's going to to start at about $40k...and up.

Here is a link:

Mmmmm...If I was going to sink $40k-$50k on a car...I would just get a BMW or an Audi

But I really like the Passat, and can take the $$$ I'm saving and put it towards more guitars and amps!

Here is my Gran Turismo Omologato, 1970 Pontiac
I spent 12 years restoring this car, just to have the insurance company deny me coverage.

Man, that GTO looks great...now there is a car!!!!! Why did they deny coverage...what state are you in?

No disrespect for you guys with economy cars but I just cannot get into the idea of traveling down a Los Angeles interstate with 18 wheelers all around me, dickhead drivers all around me, drunks and potheads driving all around me...while transporting my kids in a soda pop can. Give me the best protection I can have.......it is killing my wallet but I feel safer.

Yeah...driving real small economy cars can seem a bit scary next to the trucks and big cars.
I think it's the reason I see so many big SUVs, 'cuz they seem to appear "safer", and probably the reason so many women opt for SUVs these days...
...but I do believe SUV's have a higher accident rate.

And I think the statistics also show that SUVs lead to more deaths in multi-car accidents.

I've always preferred a mid-sized vehicle...though when I had the Scirocco, it sure was a LOT of fun!
I also had a Spitfire (the last year they were ever made)...talk about a small car.
I ended up totaling it in an direct hit with an 18-wheeler...and walked away without a scratch....but I do think I burned at least one of my lives that day!

I am in PA, they denied me coverage due to the fact I already have a two sports cars on my plan. And I have 2 12 year old DUI's(long story, but I was drunk through out most of my 20s). I know the DUI's are my fault, but they said no to covering this car, I think I will have better luck next year(after I am married and I sell my Dodge Dakota R/T, and Her Mustang).

My GTO is so big that I once packed all my camping gear in it just to store it, and it all fit in the trunk. This stuff usually takes up the whole bed of my pick up truck.

LOL!!

I have had my share of small and mid size cars the smallest being a Mini back in the day...Ford Capri's..the English one's.....and Honda Accords etc. I figure most of the time a semi is going to kill anything it hits...you were lucky Miro...someone was looking out for you that day.

But say a head on with a car like a VW, BMW, Honda, Toyota...left turn in front of you etc....I will take my chances and the safety of my kids in my Suburban, it is solid.

Roll over.....hmm dunno....hope to avoid that by driving responsibly.

I could have special effects pit in a roll cage....LOL!!!

What do you drive fumbles? You can be surprised at how safe/unsafe some cars are, compared to how you would perceive them to be.

Here is a good website where you can punch in your car model to view full safety test results. It's pretty cool, you can see how an impact would affect each person in the car and also which areas of your body would be least protected etc etc etc

Those were badass little cars!
Real fast off the line...right?

Yeah...a real big "iron boat" often will survive basic hits better than some small cars...but these days you really have to look at the innards...the construction and safety features.
I think there are quite a few "small" cars that would let you survive a crash better than some big monsters. This Passat has the extra side panels…and wrap-around air bags…and I don’t know it’s actual accident rating, but I do believe it’s pretty good overall.

So I'm driving behind a big SUV yesterday in the rain...and the woman driving it must have taken her eyes off the traffic in front of her, and all of a sudden she slammed the breaks and went into a weird fast twist-slide....I though she was going to go off the road for a second.
I just firmly hit my brakes and made a quick steering maneuver away from her.
Nothing happened, but watching that SUV weeble-wobble like that from such a small/short breaking incident was kinda’ freaky.
I wonder how it would behave if she was going faster and had to really stomp on the breaks!

I have an older Suburban 7.4L V8 made right here in the US of A and it gets great gallons per mile.....around 10 or so and being as I am rich and would vote Republican if I were allowed to vote, the $4.00 a gallon does not bother me....I wish it would go to $10.00 a gallon and get some idiots off the road.....y'know the one's that cannot afford it.......screw 'em I am rich.........plus I feel like I am doing my part to support those that do not support global warming......I am pumping those emissions out baby....smoke 'em out I say, bah to the neersayers.....now about the kill ratio of my vehicle.....I am getting little stickers to put on the side of my 'Burban right under the drivers window......VW, Honda,Toyota, Nissan, and anything Hybrid......then I am going out on a crushing mission .....

Seriously, y'all enjoy your cars.....I know I will have to give up my big gas guzzler soon.....it is ridiculous......$4.00+ a gallon...dang, I just put $30 in and it hardly went to 1/2 way up. I have no idea what I will get...probably a Volvo station wagon I guess.......NOT a Mini van....thank you very much....but I have to address this pretty soon.....my wallet is hurting, the air is hurting, and basically my car is at the end of it's life as far as it is starting to cost more and more on the maintenance.......needs shocks, tires soon, the A/C is not a cold as it was, the transmission plays up when it is cold.......I HATE buying cars....it is a process I can do without completely.

SO, I think I will settle on a car by way of internet research...my own, don't need any advice thanks........and then just look for that car only.

They do not even list Chevrolet's on that site.

I do not drive fast with my kids in the car.

Fumbles...you are funny!! LMAO!!!

For me, I wouldn't presume to say that my choice in a car/truck is better than someone elses. It's enough that I'm responsible for me, and my family. I just hope nobody gets into an accident in the first place!!

Be careful out there!!!

No bug up mine, might want to check yours though I was merely saying they don't even list Chevvies there ...from a point of view that it is a Euro site and I don't think Suburbans are very plentiful over there......and the fast with kid in my car was directed towars Miro's comment about how the woman's car might have reacted if she were going faster.....I don't drive fast with my kids in my car.

So nowt on the negative side was directed at you at all Lee.

It reads a lot more knarked off, than I meant when I wrote it... If that makes sense.. :-)

But 7.4L? You wanna try filling that sucker up over here @ £1.11 per litre. Now THAT's what you call hurting your wallet.

Man...the carelessness I see on the roads by some people who have kids in their cars...
Lady…PUT THE PHONE DOWN…STOP TURNING AROUND TO THE BACK SEAT WHERE YOUR KID IS SITTING…AND GET OUT OF THE LEFT LANE IF YOU ARE GOING TO GO 20MPH SLOWER THAN EVERYONE ELSE!

But at the same time...I wouldn't drive *extra careful* if I had kids in the car. I would just drive normal. All that "Baby On Board" stuff by some folks gets a little overdone IMO.
There is always a pulse...a rhythm on every road...and IMO, going with the flow of that rhythm is about the safest you can do...even if it means driving over the speed limit at times.
Did you ever try driving real slow when everyone else is going 70 MPH! \:D
