Saturday night there was a guy, so drunk he was cross-eyed, and had been cut off. After every song he’s shouting out “Robin Trower!” — from the very beginning of the performance.

After a while he starts pointing at me (I’m the only guitarist in the band, a 4-piece with keys, bass and drums) saying, “He doesn’t have what it takes to play Trower; you can’t do it! I’ve seen Trower 3 times!” (He might have actually been holding up 2 fingers as he said the last...)

So we told him that we had some Trower in the second set--be patient. The bassist has a slightly over developed sense of propriety, and has far too little patience with that sense being violated. It was clear that he was getting spun up, and wanted to hurt the guy– hurt him baaaad.

So, finally, we get to set 2, song 3, Too Rolling Stoned.
When we finish, and the audience is clapping (I had extended the 2nd ½ lead solo, and had added in as much Trower feel as I could muster, milking the guitar for tone, to try to get this guy to be a happy drunk ), he says “Robin Trower! Play some Robin Trower!" So I walked up to the mic and said we had just played a Trower song. \:o Uhhh. HelLO!

I kid you not: he said, “I missed it!” The place erupted in laughter.

I usually tell those kind of people "we don't play Trower, but I bet for a 100 bucks we can learn it on the spot" they grab their wallets and we play Trower

MWAHAHHAHA...man, that is hilarious! \:D

We were playing a club one night and getting ready to take a break.
So being the obnoxious person I am...I started the intro into Hells Bells...AC/DC, knowing damn well our singer couldn't handle it. \:D
When I stopped playing and we were setting our guitars in their stands to take a break, this drunk as hell girl got off her bar stool and started screaming...."what'd you stop for...what'd you stop for...play it MF!" \:D

Hell, she almost followed me into the damn bathroom still screaming that crap.
All I could do was laugh like hell. \:D

Actually, there is a top-rate AC/DC tribute band of all women that is absolutely terrific, and spot on!

Whenever my band plays anywhere, Our Singer always makes it a point during his introductions to tell the crowd I am originally from Detroit (we are in middle Tennessee) and I always start to play the beginning of Ted Nugents "Stranglehold"... and EVERY time, some drunk just starts hootin' and hollerin' and going crazy, it's hilarious!!!!

Those all are some great stories too!!! One of the fun things about playing music I guess....HA HA!!!!

I'm still trying to convince my band to do "Bridge of Sighs" - but neither guitarist has the stones to tackle his licks. \:\(

Hey, I love that song or most any Trower.

I've done Bridge of Sighs using my daw and after doing all the guitar parts and then listening to the finished product, I was amazed.
Uhhhh, I should mention I'm semi new to computer based recording. \:D

With Trower, you realized how simple SOME of his guitar parts were but then you realize...how nicely they fit together and sound so cool. \:\)

Like at the end of BOS....when you add the 3 parts one after another.
Heck, even keep on going to In This Place...another cool song!
It just becomes cool as hell to recreate it. \:\) \:D

I can do "Day of the Eagle", "Too Rolling Stoned" (played both live; sang the latter and played) and "Little Bit of Sympathy".

I've gotten away without a uni-vibe with these tunes but "Bridge of Sighs"... NO WAY!!! I must get a uni-vibe before I even think of doing this live.

Keep trying. That is one of the easiest Trower songs, and if you get the tone right, it’s enormously enjoyable to play.

Here's a recording of "Too Rolling Stoned" I did with my last band at a rehearsal. I think this was our first or second try at the tune (as you'll be able to tell). LOL!

A few months ago, I found a backing track for "Day of the Eagle":

They both have the amps (Reinhardt tube heads w/matching 4x12's - it's nice to have Bob Reinhardt in the band!) and they both have the pedal racks (fer chrissakes, either of their effects piles cost more than my bass, my guitar, and all my amps put together) - but they're both nervous nellies about "getting it right" when it comes to doing a really legendary guitarist's work (although Bob has no trouble winging it on "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" )
