So I am looking at them, looking at the TS808 Reissue (its around $180, with small button) then the Route 808 Pedal, and the Multi-Scream. Any advice?

I've played every new Tube Screamer version. Unfortunately, I've never played an old one....many swear by them.

All of my Tube Screamers went on the shelf, and collect dust since I got a Klon.

I don't know about any other models, but the new TS9 has an obnoxious mid-range honk and gets harsh past 12 o'clock. But gripes aside, it gets the job done.

Although, from my experience with 3 knob OD's I find that they add many more variables that takes more time to nail the sweet spot.

Which leads me to ask, would you be using it to provide a lot of overdrive, or would you be using it for a boost?

The Retro-Sonic 808 Overdrive is nice TS clone, with an added bonus of being true bypass.

While I have not played a Klon yet, I will have to agree with the good Drs on this. A good clean boost, for me anyway, beats a TS anyday. Not that theres anything wrong with the TS, or any of its imitators, I just find that a clean boost does the job much better, even the cheap EH Nano LP1. One of these days I will try a Klon.

I stopped playing my Screamer when I got my Full-Tone Full Drive. In Vintage Mode I like it better than the screamer for sure, but other modes let you have a little more flexibility.

Of course, I'm on a waiting list for a Hermida ZenDrive, and suspect that it'll replace the Fulldrive with my blues rig (Carr Vincent), but I'll keep my FullDrive 2 (with Mosfet) in my Rock Rig (Mesa Lonestar)...

If you like the sound of that Twin cranked, but can't stand the volume I recommend these boosts:

Plexi Boost

Output boost

If you want an od, the FD-2 is a good one. For distortion, OCD v.3 is good. I really like my Hermida Zendrive. These are all different, but can be very smooth-sounding. The FD-2 is very versatile.

If you want a clean boost, then go for a boost! I've never tried a Klon but I bet it's super neat. I have never tried the Zvex, I bet it's good as well. I had a Creation Labs MK. 4-whatever and man that thing was clean, noise-free and powerful! Awesome, exactly what the word "boost" suggests, nothing more nothing less. I'd love to try a Klon.

Although I'll never buy another Fulltone product because of an incident I experienced where Mike Fuller was rude to me, I will say that I really like the Fulltone OCD pedal I bought before I "got to know" Mike Fuller so well!! LOL

I have heard a lot of incidences of problems with quality control with Fulltone products lately, however.....problems with everything from their guitar cable, to pedals shipped with internal components that had not been soldered, to faulty activator switches on their pedals.......

If you an find an original TS, there is no substitute for it's sound. One of the reissues use the original chip. I don't recall but I could always open one of mine and get the chip #

If you are looking for the TS sound, only the TS will give it to you. There are a lot of other "boost" available and as you can see above, everyone has one they like the sound of.

It's your ears

Just in case you missed it, but other than that, I think a boost may be the way to go. although these might be a tad too pricey. Really depends on what you think.

According to many people around the web: Klon, Zvex Super Hard-on, Creation Labs Boost, the clean Xotic booster (look 'em up on the web), Bad Bob Boost....

I second that, although the boost is not a clean boost it is a good od/boost for only 59 us dollars.

From the product description:

Oh, I like that. At least they're being honest about how noisy it is.

Last I heard, the Klon and Super Hard-On are way expensive. I just can't rationalize spending as much on a pedal as I would for an amp.
