Ah, I couldn't help myself...
I used to have a JCM800 2204. I sold it a few years back, and I've missed it greatly.
So when I saw this amp, I had to get it...

It has had an effects loop installed. The good news is that I'll find the loop useful. The better news is that mods on older Marshalls drive down the price...

Hey, are those separate send and return level controls I see? If so, very nice! A much better effects-loop interface than the usual...

From the first pic, it looks like the FX loop can be used to do the laundry: very cool!
Unless you can use it to cool down the amp with water?
But it is indeed a great amp and it sounds like you had a great deal, too. Have fun with it!!!

It's an '86 according to the seller. It is currently set up with EL43s, although it would have originally come with 6550s. Personally, I think the "Marshall" sound is the sound of a screaming pair or quad of EL34s, so that's fine with me... All it takes to go between the two tube types is to change the value of the bias resistor, so it's not a big deal.

Nice Mike, you do realize of course, that this requires you to post sound clips in the near future right?

How's about some gut shots?
Here's the loop configuration:

The rest of the chassis looks to be as it should be...

Clips?
These clips were actually done to demo a prototype of a Leslie sim that should be hitting the market soon, as opposed to showing off my new amp. But the amp sounds nice, too...

I'm with Doc, we need to hear this amp's roar!!!

OK, I can make it roar...
I just picked up a Mojo Hand Huckleberry Version 2, and I am mighty impressed. It's a hybrid fuzz (Si and Ge) that doesn't sound exactly like a Fuzz Face, but is definitely in that ballpark. Cleans up nicely when you back off the volume, but has a whole lot of gain on tap when you wind it up.
I used the 2204 to record this clip:
Four minutes and four seconds of mindless Huck V2 wankage...
I play a few bits with the pedal off right at the beginning, but after that the pedal is on all the way to the end. The cleaner parts in the middle are just the guitar volume rolled down.
All the standard caveats apply... One take, no edits, clams included at no extra charge, those with shellfish allergies should stay away.... etc.
Gear that was used in the above clip:
Late 80s '62 reissue Strat '86 Marshall JCM800 2204 Ibanez DM1100 delay in the loop Trutone 2x12 cab loaded with Scumback H75-HPs
I am Marshall, hear me roar...
Cheers,
MP
