Hi Everyone. I came across a few sites claiming that Mogami 1/4" guitars are "the best" out there and I want to know what you all think. Any comments that will help me decide to purchase/not purchase these expensive cables?

I realize that a good cable is a good cable, but do Mogami's cabling really make a difference?

Mogami is very good cable & it's not expensive. There are a lot of snake oil cables which make absurd claims & cost a lot of dough, which is generally largely wasted. Mogami is among a handful of the best audio cables available, along with Canare, Gepco & Belden. My studio probably has several miles of Mogami in it. It's not really any more expensive than the other good ones. If you saw an outlandish price on Mogami cable it was because someone has put some connectors on it & added a big markup for their labor. Do your own soldering & you'll save a lot of money.

Well, let me put it this way, bad cable REALLY makes a difference. I don't use anything of lesser quality than Mogami & I have many hundreds of cables in the studio. I would say you won't really hear a difference between Mogami & Canare & Gepco & Belden. They're all good. Good cable really isn't that expensive. Bad cable becomes expensive because you have to replace it, thus paying twice.

Mogami's are guaranteed for life. If any of mine ever go kaput (none have), all I have to to is take the cable to Guitar Center (even if I didn't buy it there) and get a replacement cable... no receipt required, no questions asked.

Make difference? Well, you won't play any better. But the cabe will pass signal, in some cases better than some of its competition. It may last longer than some of its competition. I have some of their mic cable, and it is pretty nice stuff. But I sure cannot tell if I've used it or the Belden 8412 or the West Penn Wire or the Gepco, or any of the other reasonable quality cables that I own. I even have one of those pricy Monster guitar cables, and it doesn't sound any different to me that the Beldens, Whirlwinds, Conquests, or other good cables that I own.

Somebody left one of those pricey Monster cables in my studio a while back. Just to prove something to myself I plugged it in & compared it with Mogami & a Carvin guitar cable I had. Sure enough it did sound noticeably different, with the guitar & amp I used. Not better, not worse, yet definitely different. I'll have to try it against my new George L cable.

Yeah...that's what I found with most "good" guitar cables...differences, but no real better/worse standouts.

I used Mogami, Gepco and Gotham in my studio wiring...with some Belden and even a bit-o-Hosa in some spots...but the main snakes for all the rack/patchbays were done with military-grade double sheild snakes. You could drive over it with a truck and not damage the snake... \:\) ...but it was a PITA doing all the connections with that stiff wire, and hand-soldering all those points!

I use Mogami.

Monster Cables are rumoured to use slightly larger jacks and mess up the connection for other signals by bending the connection.

So, I've done the research and have decided I'd like to purchase Mogami. I tried one out at a friend's studio and it seems to sound better. Maybe it's just in my head? \:\)

Anyhow, http://www.2inch24.com seems to have the best prices. Has anybody ever purchased from them before?

Maybe. Depends on what you were comparing it to.

No, although some of their gear prices were not anything special. I buy Mogami in bulk from a local brick & mortar outlet & solder my own connections, but if I were buying online I'd get it from http://www.markertek.com.

I ended up ordering from 2inch24.com (hey... what can I say, I'm cheap and go for price...) and I've used my cables on a couple gigs. I absolutely love them! I got the one with the "silent plug" and it seems to work. I like the fact that I can swap my guitars without any mutes in line.

Perhaps it's not everbody's cup of tea, but I'm sold. I just hope they live up to their lifetime warranty claim. I guess only time will tell...
