So I'm leafing thru the new copy of GP mag, and the names Millo, GuitarPalyerSoCal, Billster, etc. leap out at me (the questions you guys asked were not only used in the Slash interview, but your names mentioned).

Millo, the answer to your question was "get in line".

I don't care for this for one reason.... around here we talk in shorthand, to each other, as friends. We leave a lot out, and say things in a manner which we might not use for public consumption. I've been quoted off-line from things that I'e said on line and been critizised for it.... rightly so, as what was quoted was quoted correctly, but was way, way out of context and so was misinterpreted by people who were not a part of the community nor of the conversation.

If I'm going to be quoted elsewhere, I'd like a chance to clean up the wording and make sure that it is clear and to the point, acurately understandable by readers who do not hang out here.

Now that we're famous, we'll also be given cover stories and record deals...that's in the agreement to use our questions. \:D

That is very cool that some of our members got a mention in the mag. A good example of the difference between us thinking of something for the mag and them coming up with the idea! (ref. - our Forum Players Poll data, that was never published)

I believe they are just taking the quotes from the threads where they asked if you wanted to ask a musician a question.

The smartarse questions somehow didn't make the cut.

Well except for yours, Millo, the "can I have one of your Les Pauls" question. \:\)

Right.

I see many print publications going this route to make the magazines more interactive, FWIW. Eventually I guess magazines will become websites. Electronic Musician already publishes their full content to the website pretty rapidly, as do more mainstream mags like Time and Car and Driver.

My best mention in GP is still when I was in Molenda's MySpace picks to click. ;\) \:\)

I was making suggestions to EQ magazine editors two years ago or more to use the magazines and these forums in a more interactive and cooperative basis...and offered up many suggestions on what could be done. They just seem to be slow up there in the front offices... *shrug* …and this Q&A thing is all they've come up with so far.
The magazines and respective forums STILL continue to exist apart from each other as two totally different entities with different agendas...which makes no sense.
The respective websites do have some connections to the mags…but a website us useless without people/visitors…and the forums have the people. Heck….there was a time when they had LOTS of people…but front office wisdom allowed many to drift away (I won’t go into that again)…and now the forums are more akin to small niche clubhouses instead of the FORUMS they use to be a few years back.

But…I won’t say any more…as this is old news for anyone that’s been around here for more than a couple of years. I guess this is…what it is now….

That's funny. Were any of my "more valid" questions included?

Has it hit the stands yet? Waiting for the 1st issue of my subscription to arrive... come to think of it, I need to contact them about it.

No problem, Craig.
I said I wasn’t looking to go back into all that past history...
...only noting that I see a correlation.
Mostly I’m miffed that the magazines haven't been able to do more to tie the forums in…all these members…which IMO was/is a golden opportunity to increase participation, subscriptions and sales of advertised gear.
IMO...these are good things that would benefit all.

But maybe the magazines have more in store for us...maybe the Q&A is just the start of even better interaction.

Ha ha! As a matter of fact, I did ask him one of the hat questions (I think it went something like, "Is the hair attached to the hat or the hat attached to the hair?"). He laughed. Just said it was his trademark. Then he confirmed that he lifted that hat out of a store in hollywood next to the club where Guns was about to play one of their first gigs, and that it's been on his head pretty much ever since.

You know, he lost that hat on a gig a couple years ago and his management hired a publicity firm to send out a blanket APB to all media outlets in hopes he'd get the hat back (which he soon did). So I don't think it's attached to the hair.

thanks for the great questions.

Hi all...

As you know by now, Jude ASKED for Slash questions -- as we also did for Al Di Meola questions for the July issue -- so we weren't using any forum content without implied consent from the responders. Thanks so much for all your help.

As for the questions of print/GP Forum interactivity -- GP has been asking for poll results, questions, peer reviewers, GPTV guests, etc. off and on for many many months. Some ideas work better than others, of course. Scheduling forum members to help review products within our deadlines and office hours was not easy, for example. However, I'm WAY open to improving print and online synergies, so let's keep the dialog open. All workable strategies will be considered.

As for the FORUM POLL -- I screwed the pooch on that one and I apologize. I was given enough notice, and then I think I dropped the ball TWICE. If you still want me to publish it, send the file to mmolenda@musicplayer.com, and I'll find a place for it. Again, this one was ALL my fault.

Best to all,
Mike

Friendly reminder: On all these Ask-the-Artist-A-Question threads, it clearly states, "By posting to this thread, you agree that your question may be published in Guitar Player magazine, edited for brevity or clarity if necessary, and credited to your forum name/handle" (or something to that effect).
