young guitarists are still learning this song. Elliot Randall did the original guitar work. I had the extreme pleasure of having him AR a recording project for us around 1970, although the experience is kinda foggy and hazy(if you know what I mean \:D ). Quite a character. Of course, his signature work was on Steely Dan's Reelin' in the Years. I happened on this kid's video, and was really amazed. Give it a listen.

Thanks, Paul. I could listen to that all day.

Steely Dan did some of the best music ever recorded. I have so many favorites; My Old School, Kid Charlemagne, Don't Take Me Alive, the Royal Scam, Pretzel Logic, With A Gun, Bodhisattva, Fire In The Hole, Haitian Divorce, the list just goes on and on.

Rob,

Funny, but many of those you mentioned happened to be songs that we played. "My Old School, Kid Charlemagne, Don't Take Me Alive, the Royal Scam, ...Bodhisattva". Love those tunes, though I would be hard pressed to play most of them today. I remember most of the songs that I've played in the past, but those chord forms were not/are not ones that I use so much. (stacked seconds on guitar, oy!)

Damn, he nailed it right up to the end when he decided to improv a little. \:D
He even got that fuzz tone effect down. \:D

We used to play that in the 70's and 80's.
The lead is not that hard to learn but to play right...takes a little more effort.

One of my all time favorite songs! \:\)

He's playing along with the (original) recording, right?

Sure sounds like it. Fingering positions are in the right places tho, and I caught a few vibratos and extra noodling that weren't on the record. Dat cat be good!

I was always a take it or leave it listener of Steely Dan. I wouldn't seek it out, but I wouldn't turn it off either.

I'm wondering if that is because no one played them at the places I went to. I enjoyed watching this guy play.
