Took the V to a jam tonight. It always gets ogled like a naked starlet the first time it's seen in any venue. Tonight, for whatever reason, it behaved well. Then again, I didn't play Freebird, so perhaps God behaved and didn't pop a string on it 2 bars in. Anyway, it played and sounded great through the host's Blues Jr with my Dano Fab pedal, and I was trying to remember why I'd banished it to its case for so long. It was a joy to play, and its tone brought forth a flood of compliments that other guitars just don't receive! It's gotta be the look, cuz it doesn't sound as rich as the 175 or 355, nor as gutsy as the LP, more like between a 335 and a Firebird, I'd say, but musicians in every venue I've taken it to just fall in love with it. It's even been specifically requested by bar owners for bookings. If anything, I don't play it as well as I do most of the others, since it gets played so rarely, but it always goes over well with people. After tonight's little epiphanny, it's gonna see more action. Vive la V!

If breaking strings is a constant problem, look into GraphTech. I play kinda hard using heavy strings, and I used to chew through the brige saddles and such,to the point where the metal sawed through the strings. Converting to GraphTech nuts and saddles cured that.

It's a beaut all right! The appeal (to me, anyway) is that it's a Gibson, I don't have the guts to own due to it's outlandish shape, yet it has such a great place in the annals of rock guitar. I've always wanted one, yet I know I would rarely find a venue for playing it...
It did sound terrific, until you started playing Free Bird, and the collected music karma of every musician in the place forced a string to snap! So bring it out more often! But leave the Free Bird at home! :-)
