I found this article last week in the local paper. I thought it was interesting:

Ethanol, engine woes linked

And above all, don't get them confused.

If you try to invite friends around for a sail on a lawnmower you'll look very silly indeed. Likewise if you attwmpt to use your runabout to mow the lawn.

So please, exercise due care when using either object. Using the one in place of the other can result in potential damage to your property and self esteem.

\:D Nope, not confused. I can't confuse a boat with a lawnmower because I don't have a boat. \:D

Yep, I'm a boat owner and all of that is in every manual.

Ethanol and alcohol is not good for those motors.

For one thing, they'll eat through your gas hoses that supply your motors.
They also are the cause of rattling valves.
In other words, it sucks.
It will void the warranty of your boat motor as well.
I know this because I am a big believer in reading my manuals. \:D

That's why I only buy our gas from reputable stations.

It's serious business.
If you don't and you buy the cheap gas, you could be out on the lake and your boat could catch fire and/or blow up.
It's no laughing matter at all.

Even if your boat starts fire and you get off your boat, if the water is cold, you have to hope you can make it to shore before you get too cold or drown.

This is where gov't should stay the hell out when it doesn't know the problems it is mandating.

I don't know what the gas options are at our local marinas, but here we don't have a choice as to whether or not we want gas with ethanol in it.

The Cumberland Farms (Gulf gas) where I get my gas has just put signs on their pumps stating that their gas may contain up to 10% ethanol.

Now my knowledge of engines is limited, but I do know that my car owner's manual states that I should run my car on 87 octane. My mechanic told me that to run it on a higher octane than what was listed in the owner's manual would be a waste of money.

Now I have a question: Would the advice in the article about buying premium gasoline for lawnmowers also apply to car engines?

Yeah, I know what you mean.
I get my gas in 5 gallon cans and take them to my pier, or at least that's what I did when I lived on the lake.

Now for my power equipment, I still do that.
I use regular but premium is always better.
For your outdoor stuff, it's not that much gas needed anyway.

Always use a brand name, like Shell, BP, Chevron, etc...
DO NOT USE CITGO...it's from Hugo Chavez! \:D

I work at a marina - our distributor assures me that the gas we get does not have ethanol - they are aware that it does not work in a marine environment. Tennessee does not have a law mandating that ethanol be added to fuel and it was not very common until last fall. Now, according to a recent article I read, about 3/4 of all the fuel stations in this area are selling it. And I do believe it are required by law to post signage on the pumps if the gas contains more than 4% ethanol.

HAHAHHAHAA \:D

I know what you mean.
I tell you why I do though...when it comes to boats that is.

When I bought my first boat about 25 years back, I didn't know jack.
I was as green as they come.
I stuck my nose into that manual and didn't even come up for air.
\:D
It really helped...I learned a boat load of good stuff. \:D

After that, it just became a habbit, and really saved my butt a couple of times instead of just assuming. \:D

Yeah, you're right though.
Wading through them is like....ARMAGEDDON. \:D

I NEVER burn any ethanol in my mower!

Of course I never burn anything in it (a cordless electric that's also pretty nice'n quiet).

Bejeeber, how long can you go on a single charge with that mower?

Michelle, I could mow my current front and back lawns (they're not real big) a couple times on one charge.

I think it should easily mow any "normal" size lawn on one charge.

The weirdest thing was I had it sitting outside under a tarp (waiting for a garden shed) all winter, not being charged.

So after several months of that the grass started to grow. I got it out to charge it, but it had held a charge enough for me to just go and mow the lawns! Wasn't expecting that. \:\)

That's cool! My lawn isn't normal though. The house sits on 5 acres of land with about 200 trees on the property. Your mower would be good to use for going around the trees and around the house.
