Does anyone have this. I am thinking about getting it to use with my laptop while on location etc and for when away from home or office broadband.
I see Verizon has two plans ( of course ) One has a 50MB monthly download limit and the other a 5 Gig per month download limit. $240 a year difference with the cheap one still coming in at almost $500 a year. I can write it off though, a bit of a help.
I obviously have a feel for how little 50MB is, but how does that relate to internet use? When visiting a site, doing research etc, is every page you go to considered a download? Or are they just referring to actual downloads you make like songs, applications etc etc?

No, no... I don't know about American user plans, but *everything* is a download. Even the avatars on this page count as downloads.
It even applies AFAIK, to stuff that you don't technically download but stream, like YouTube.

A friend has had the Sprint plan for years, but they sent it to him for $40.
Abut Verizon I can only say that i do not like them, do not trust them, and have had no good experiences with them in two years. I'd like to get away from them. Right now, my DSL has been crap for a couple of months.

50MBs is not enough!
If you get the 50MBs, you will use it up and then get zapped by the extra MB charge.
Everything that streams onto your computer is counted. As Vince said, every avatar, graphic and word of text is counted. imagine video!
If you want to find out how much you use, download one of the many, free, bandwidth meters that track your bandwidth usage. Run it for a week and then multiply that by four to get your approximate months usage.
Until then, to give you an example, just the first page of "The Ultimate Showoff Thread" totals around 5MB. That's already one tenth of your entire months allowance. View it twice because someone added new pics and then you've used up 10MB. View the second page full of pics and you've used up 15MB...You see where I'm going with this...

Do Apples automatically update themselves in the background? Like software updates etc? If so, whatever you get... Turn that little feature off! :-)

How about visiting a Starbucks for Wi-Fi access with a latte?
I think downloading by the MB is going to burn you in the end.
