I got the Addictive Drums but I ordered EZ Drummer first... My audio engineer friend had me over and we had Session Drummer2, EZ Drummer, and Addictive Drums loaded in his DAW... We played each one...the same beats the same drums and AD blew the others outa' the water... So I canceled my EZ order and got the AD... The downside is AD is Swedish or from somewhere over there so they have no phone support... Their email is ok but their forum is a bit slow... another downside is the EZ has more instruments but the AD is adding expansion packs... I was having some problems with downloading and I needed to go into the registry. That is something that chills me... anyway Lars, the head dude there got right back to me and we fixed the problem... Another downside is that the expansion of a midi track in Sonar is not as easy but very doable... But the control you have over each drum and the sound of each drum is worth it... When you compare them all side by side by side with the same pattern that's what sold me.... It was the expansion that I was having trouble with and I was hoping someone on here was familiar with it... Turns out that in Sonar you can't just cursor and slide the clip over, you have to CTRL copy paste so it gets to be a bit redundant but building a drum track you have to chop it up anyway... Oh. one more thing, it has total human touch right down to choking cymbals... Very nice program so far....

MAN this EZD is EASY! to use... pick out a basic beat at the meter you want drop in in the recording window, grab a fill drop it in, set the length of the tune your working on.. done, the fills are very cool and there are all kinds to pick from. When I load the project in Cubase Essentials, the EZD comes up and automatically drops in 8 midi channels all labeled and ready to go, can add more if I want to but 8 is a good start, everything is drag and drop. I open the EZD mixer and make dynamic changes on each piece of the kit I picked, take a listen to the whole kit together and if I like it drag and drop the whole kit into the Cubase recording window and all the VST elements of the kit go automatically into the correct channels.

I agree Doc Lee... The EZ is "EASY"...They both work essesntially the same... But when I heard them side by side it was a no brainer... The drums sounded fuller and more life like in AD... But it DOES have it's limitations.. (for now)....

I didn't know anything about these at the time...Thanks for puttin' that up... They sound great but between the 3 I had to choose from the AD was by far the best sounding... I can't afford to change again...

Cool to know, I'll assume SD 2 can do the same thing since it seems it's essentially the same program... I'm thinking of Cubase for software studio for the future 'puter.

Can you "tempo-morph" a track or phrase like on the latest Sonar?

I'm not sure what tempo-morph is? I'm not familiar with Sonar at all.

One BAD thing about Sonar is that they aren't friendly with outside drum programs...I can't drop a clip in and drag it across the track to expand it... I have to CTRL copy paste to build a track but it doesn't take that long... Sonar sucks in that department...

know what?... I'm not sure if I just made up that term... apparently you can take a lick, copy and paste it and the program will change the tempo and/or pitch (key) to fit the new context. Something like that. Not sure if it sounds natural or anything, and I'm not sure if that's anything special, but seems like a very nice feature.

I need to read tons more but I'm leaning towards Cubase, if I don't end up w/ a Mac/Logic type of deal.

I'm not sure exactly on that, I built a nice drum part for a new song I wrote tonight, had the lyrics done and was fitting the drum track to the accents I wanted the drummer to use, cymbal crashes and bell ride. So guitar in lap, mouse dragging files from EZD and MAN did it go fast! the fills are very cool and mixing fills is very easy too, split fills with in 8 bars two different fills, the program syncs them together and they are perfect within the context of the main ride of the groove. Got done with that part on the entire song and then went back and moved the drum mics around in the EZD program for more room dynamics and some bleed between the kit... man that is EASY!!!

They call it "groove-clip looping" which utilizes "Acid-ized" waves (from the Sony "Acid" programs). Sometimes it sounds natural, sometimes not. It's cool, but it's usually better to just play the part!

Sure you can! Drag the clip into the midi track, click on it to "select" it, and then click on "edit">enable groove clip looping. The edges of the clip will become rounded and then you can drag it out for as many measures as you'd like.

MILLO, this may be what you are referring to? this is out of the Cubase Essentials 4 PDF file about the program:

AudioWarp
Cubase Essential 4 now includes powerful realtime time-stretching and pitch-shifting functions - AudioWarp. Audio files can now follow the projects tempo or a tempo track without the need for offline processing. Loops can match a projects tempo and even be transposed in realtime. Cubase Essential 4 uses a custom-designed realtime algorithm, which offers high audio quality combined with low CPU load. In order to maintain the best sound quality possible, AudioWarp offers different playback modes for specific instrument groups (Drums, Plucked, Pads, Vocals, Mix, Solo) and a special advanced mode for custom settings. These can be set independently for each audio event. For realtime pitch shifting of solo audio material (like lead vocals), a special playback Solo algorithm preserves formants for natural-sounding transposition. AudioWarp is fully compatible with ACID files for instant compatibility with hundreds of loop libraries available.
