Daycare for my older daughter over the summer. It'll run us about $600 more per month than what we pay during the school year for after-school care. There's three months in the summer, so it is an additional $1,800 that we'll be paying over and above what our school-year cash outflow would be for a similar three-month period.
And what a coincidence, Uncle Sam is sending us $1800...

We have to pay for Lilly's school in advance this year. If we're lucky it will cover most of that check.

Paying off a chunk of my middle son's braces and (maybe) buying a new garage door opener.
It's exciting being 45.

I spent mine (and then some) on the Gold Top I got a few months ago! In other words, its going towards the old credit card. So I guess you could say mine went towards GAS!

Use it to help pay off credit card bills. I wish I hadn't been so stupid about credit cards.

Mmmmm....OK...sorry I mentioned the amps and G.A.S to you folks with other needs.
Why should you feel bad about mentioning your G.A.S? You weren't the one who got me into credit card debt. I was the one who did that. Just because I got myself into debt doesn't mean that I don't want to hear about someone elses good fortune!

Yeah...but when I know people who have it rough...(but I've been there too). About 10 years ago...I had a fat CC debt. But when I bought my current house, and then again refinanced the mortgage...I wiped out ALL my CC debt in those two steps. I have not paid one $0.01 in CC fees/interest in like…seven years now…and I use CC all the time (I just always pay off the balance no matter how big it is).
AFA putting the rebate money into savings...I already did that with my initial tax refund for last year (which was a nice chunk-o-change)...so this rebate is going to be GAS spending money!

I've been there myself. My boss at a job I used to have (he was, actually still is, an awesome guy, as a boss and a friend) helped me get a loan to pay off my cards. I didn't touch them for quite some time after that. Then I got married. My wife is incredible with money. We use credit cards for everything, but she pays it off every month, no matter how much. Plus she can save like I've never seen anyone save before. So like I said before, our IRS rebate check will go straight to savings, I will probably only see it long enough to sign the back.

Do yourself a favor and adjust your withholding. Take the extra money each week and stuff it into the bank. At the end of the year you won't get a chunky tax "refund", but you will have the money in the bank already, plus any interest the bank pays.

We did that last year and it made a big difference. Got more in the check each week + money in the bank drawing interest = happy wife! Didn't get as much back at tax time, but didn't have to pay, so I'm ok with that.

Gasoline, Dunkin Donuts coffee and a trip to U.K. to see Robin Trower 2x, Joe Satriani, Abbey Road and Windsor Castle to meet the Queen, of course.

Well...it's actually a bit weird. I get a fat refund from Federal withholdings...but the State is only a few hundred $$$. If I adjusted it...I would probably end up having to pay the State every year. Plus...the few extra pennies/dollar I would get from Savings account interest would only be taxed that much more at the end of the year.
What I've been doing the last few years, is taking my entire yearly Federal refund and dropping it into 7-year Roth IRAs. The interest rate has been real good at 5%-6%...and I will not pay any taxes on it when I retire and start using it…I just need to keep rolling it back in every seven years. If I can keep that up...for the next 10-15 years...it will add up nicely towards retirement and be an additional supplement. (I have a regular retirement plan already through my job).

Same here. The last two years, we got way, way too much money back. In one case that wasn't bad because I bought my Strat with some of the money. In the bigger scope though, I gave Uncle Sam an interest free loan... I'd rather keep it for myself.
So now...... we get less from Federal to cover the State (we always seem to owe the State) and our accountant. We got to keep more throughout last year and paid down some bills (not high credit card bills.... we're responsible with our credit cards).

Most everyone I know in this state usually ends up owing New York State taxes. I think you downstaters seem to get the worst of it, though.

Property taxes for the local school districts are the worst here.

I may use the check to pay off part of the balance I owe the IRS!
But if I saw a guitar I really wanted, or a good 5-string electric mando... I might use it for (part of) that. Or maybe the nice student classical I saw for $300....
I don't suffer from GAS to the degree some people do, but there is equipment I'd like to have. I just don't want to go head over heels in debt for it!
