I just picked up one of these little gems. I had one in the 60's that plugged into the input on your amp. This one is a little stomp box. Really adds a nice touch to the 5 watt tube amp. Anybody using one? How do you use it in your chain?

I'm using one and love it. For $40 bucks it just can't be beat. In my chain it is after my Big Muff and before my BD-2, I primarily use it for solos and single note leads. That way I can use the fuzz or the BD-2 for a whole song and give it a little kick when needed.

Wow...memories. I still have the LPB-2...the one that plugs into the guitar. I used it in front of the amp input...really gave more overdrive to the front end...and made solid state amps louder.

I bought mine for $10 then...they go for close to $100 at vintage shows (WAY overpriced IMO). They're a bit noisy, but almost act like having a distortion pedal when put in front of something like the Tube Screamer. So you get crunch and a lead tone.

I put it in front of my plastic, cheap as hell Tubulator and loved it! In my small practice room, it makes everything sound better!

To my ear it seems to warm up the tone a bit and if you play with the level knob you can get all kinds of different sounds out of your amp that you normally would not get.

My brother has one and I've used it a couple times. For $40 it is a great pedal. I would use it all the time, but I just don't really have a need for it. I may try it out again now that I've gotten all of my other pedals the way that I want them.

I'll tell ya, it doesn't really change your tone or sound much, it just seems to enhance it. I've just used it with the little Gibson 5 watter. I picked up a SS Hughes and Kettner on closeout at MF and I'm going to see how it sounds with that tonight. Pretty good sounding SS amp for $200!

Oh yeah. I bought one of these when I was a kid back in '79! I was just starting out and tried to use it to get a boost for solos.

Now I use it into my 50w JCM800 just to make it even louder!

Wow an original. I'll have to show my buddies who work for EHX the pic. I'm sure they'll love it.

Pretty sweet, do you still use it or is it a part of the vintage collection?

Is that just because it doesn't work so well anymore or is it because the Klon is so good you don't really need a line booster?

The LPB-1 was a "get by" preamp to boost up old amps that where underpowered and lacked any sophistication in gain stages, it wasn't really a clean boost because it was never clean and the volume boost wasn't transparent at all. The Klon is a completely different thing. I would never put that LPB-1 in front of a good tube amp, there isn't any reason to do that. But as always it all depends on how you want your rig to sound and what kind of material you are doing.

I had an LPB-2, the floor unit version of the LPB-1, that I used, got it around '77. Kinda noisy, but it really slammed that first preamp stage and made that Twin yelp. It sounded a whole lot better than the distortion boost on the push/pull Master Volume knob Fender put in those Twins...
