Joe Walsh

There are many many more... basically, this is WHY you want to learn some of their solos note-for-note.... then make their stuff your own.

Scott Henderson.

In one of his tapes, he even states (as he stares into the camera for emphasis) that "phrasing is the most important thing....bar none".

Players with outstanding phrasing and tone are recognizable from the first few notes.

I'd say George Harrison, Clapton, Beck, Peter Green, Duane Allman, Otis Rush, Freddie, Albert, and BB King, Albert Collins, Santana, and a boat load of Jazzers. \:\)

I have to add Alex Lifeson... especially on the solo for Limelight. Now that was great phrasing.

Elliot Easton can throw more badass licks into a 20 second solo than anyone but Hendrix! Great choice.

Ace is a good guitar player..KISS was a great entertainment act, nothing wrong with either the band or the guitar players.

LOL...No, but this is a textbook example of the difference between phrasing for taste and tension and JV just not knowing where to go next!! LOL!!!

Ironically, I might agree with you to an extent. I believe that JV is trying to create a minimalist, idiosyncratic style that sounds more cohesive these days than it did a few years ago. In trying to avoid the ol' tried-and-true licks he might have gotten temporarily stymied from time to time.

Grant Green is a great one; Jim Hall, too.

"I believe that JV is trying to create a minimalist, idiosyncratic style"

He probably should try to hurry that along a bit! He's about to minimize himself into beginner land!!
