... a well set up guitar.

Just got my guitars set up for the summer. They sound great and make me want to play all day.

I know... not really a big deal but little things like this make me happy. LOL!

Actually it is a big deal. I put a new neck on my Strat in January. It took about 2 months for it to "set" in and "take" a setup. I tried sooo hard for those 2 months to play it and just couldn't cause it felt horrible. It has since stabilized and I set it up recently and it is back to its old self, except with a better neck!
Set up is one of the things that has me really excited about my new Reverend. All I had to do was raise the action a touch and change strings to my gauge and away I went. EVERYTHING else about that guitar is awesome!

Yep.. I think it's a big deal too.

Whatever it takes to make me want to practice more... I do!

What is most important to you as far as set up goes? For me it would have to be intonation and/or tuning stability. I prefer action on the med/high side, but can play if its somewhat low, but trying to play when its out of intonation makes me not want to play. Same with a guitar that won't stay in tune.

My action is about medium... a little higher on the Strat since I have bigger frets. I try to get the balance of ease of play and sharp (not rubbery) tone.

Intonation is MOST important to me. Nothing pisses me off more than when my E is sharp on one end of a string from the other. It has to be balanced... at least enough for my ears.

Tuning isn't an issue for me (because I get them setup up all the time and I have good instruments) . My guitars STAY IN TUNE all day... until the strings start to get old or if the strings are brand new. I DO NOT tolerate a guitar that can't stay in tune.

i agree with having it properly intonated and setup.
that makes me real happy. i cannot stand a guitar that won't stay in tune or playing with someone who cannot hear they are out of tune.

Happiness today is...
We're playing tonight with another band at a shop party. The singer of the other band has a relative that owns an automotive repair shop and a couple times a year they have a big shop party. They say that upwards of 100 people usually come. We get to play first at 8:00 and play for just over an hour. We've got just about that many songs, so we may have to stretch a couple of them out! And I get to give the new Reverend its live debut. Should be a good time.

Yeah... intonation and tuning. It just never sounds right to me if it's not tuned (especially, more than intonation) and then I spend all my time tuning.

I'm originally an acoustic guitar guy, and didn't have any way to adjust the intonation, so that's still kinda' new for me, although I find it does bother me as well.

My 2 cents.

+1 on a well set geetar! Last year I had a guitar that needed a complete setup and was traveling to Nashville. So I contacted Joe Glaser at Glaser Instruments and found out they had a PLEK machine. Joe was cool enough to allow me to do a walkin, since I was traveling and only was going to be in Nashville for one day.

Well the guitar ended up beeding to have the neck reset plus a bunch of other things. I can say this that after that guitar was ran through the PLEK I was astonished as to how great that guitar felt!

After that setup I determined that it is worth it for me ship my guitars to Glaser going forward.
