anyone used one? A friend who owns a studio called to rave about one, and I thought that it was rather interesting that a capo seemed so much better than any other capo that it deserved a call. I happen to be in the market for one or two extras.

On a related note, anyone used any of the 'open tuning' capos?

Bill

A bit pricey for me... My Kyser works fine at half the price...

Its a good thing you are a regular. There was just a SPAM thread started by a first time poster talking about those capos.

You just THINK he's a regular. It's really the Super-Spam Skrull Bill who posted.

Who do you trust?

I haven't used the G7th capos although I hear they are wonderful. The original bird of paradise, or whatever they call it, is less abrasive than spring loaded capos. Indiscriminate placement of a Kyser over and over wears frets out. One of the artists I toured with needed a fret job with only a few years on the instrument. He routinely threw on his Kyser as quickly as possible on stage. I can't say for certain this is true but my understanding was the luthier who did the work demonstrated how only certain frets (those where he used the Kyser) were significantly worn and in need of repair or replacement. I'm very particular how I place my Kysers as a result.

Bill, I've owned a Third Hand capo for almost 20 years. It's a fun tool, but I rarely pull it out. My wife gave me a $50 gift certificate to MF about 10 years ago and among the accessories I bought was a Dunlop Trigger capo. After determining I much preferred my Kysers (based on how they sit, not the effectiveness of the capo, etc.) I decided to experiment with the Dunlop. I made my own "cut" capo, a product you can buy from Kyser or Shubb. I trimmed the "inside" rubber and sliced off a section of the outside rubber and metal to create a capo that, at the second fret, creates an open A chord or (from the opposite side) an open Esus4. I've played with it over the years and keep it in my case, but I really haven't made much use of it in real terms.

BTW - The inventor of the Third Hand has stated he uses it to create capo tunings, then modifies other capos as I did for permanent use. The Third Hand offers complete flexibility but using one or two cams it's highly unstable. Modifying a Kyser, Shubb or Dunlop is better for regular use.

I'll post my pic when I get home from our trip. Believe it or not I'm posting on my inlaws' 200MHz, Win98 machine! I'm afraid to try to find the pic at my Imageshack account!

I have a Dunlop Trigger Capo and a Kyser.

I like the Dunlop better...it's a bit wider and more sturdy/secure in you hand when you go to squeeze it open to place it.

With the Kyser you need to make sure you have a real good hold on it with your whole hand when you squeeze it open, otherwise it has a habit of squirreling away from you and flying out of your hand. But it works well once it's on.

And I also like the fact that the Dunlop hangs below the fretboard...while the Kyser sticks up above it....

I thought I'd like the Dunlop for the placement reason, Miro, but it kept interfering with my hand position a lot more than the Kyser ever did.

To each his own I guess...

Mmmmm...I don't play with a capo a whole lot...but I didn't notice the Dunlop getting in the way....?

Even if I place my hand right up to the last fret where it resides...it doesn't really bother my hand postion...

See...now you're going to make me conscious of it and I'll be looking at the damn capo everytime I get near it on the neck! \:D

Actually, IIRC, it was the squeeze that bothered me most. positioned behind the neck I had less leverage than I do with my Kyser to the side of the neck.

Oh... and it smelled bad too... and it was prickly... and large arachnids were attracted to it...

How creepy will that make you feel about it now?? \:D

I have a Shubb my buddy gave me that works fine, never been a big fan of the trigger capos. Had a Dunlop and like fantasticsound said, the lever seemed to get in the way. Tightening the capo in the right place seems to relax me and let me think about the song before I play.

Uh... that was a joke. ;\)

Miro said my comment about the Trigger being in my way would make him self conscious about his now. I was giving him more to think about. \:D
