That amp tends to crunch rather early. It starts from about 11:00 and then the crunch dramatically increases as you go to full-tilt.
The crunch differences from 11 to 1 to 3 to Full are quite noticeable...but the overall loudness doesn't change all that much after 1:00...to full.

So basically...you just twist that Volume knob to adjust your crunch...though of course...you can always stick a pedal in front if really needed, but I have not found a need to do that.
My favorite two positions are at about 1:00 for a nice growl...and at 3:00 for some compressed crunch-n-sustain.
On full-tilt...it's nuclear meltdown.

You have to remember tat this amp doesn't do "clean" like other amps might. This is a crunch machine.

I think the Line 6 Spidervalve can get a very convincing old VH tone. Crunch Blue channel dialed in with the master and channel volume cranked loud are pretty dead on if you setup the amp right. Sounds massive.

I am so pissed...this weekend I missed out on a mint Fargen Mini-Plex...'cuz I was too slow!

The guy was asking $750 + $40 shipping...I offered him $660 + $40 shipping.
He said he was willing to take $700 + $40 shipping.

I thought about it for a few hours...and was V-E-R-Y close to going for it...and then someone else gave him the $700...and SOLD! \:\(

The Fargen Mini-Plex is only a 12W/8W amp...but it's does Marshall crunch better than a Marshall (if that makes any sense) \:D
It's a dual EL34 set up as single-ended Class A for some very rich harmonics...and it sounds quite sweet.
That one was MINT condition, with a blonde Tolex and gold piping...it would have fit in very well with my other amps.

Man...I really do need GAS help...'cuz I really was V-E-R-Y close to buying that puppy!

holy crap Miro, that amp was a steal, new Mini Plex's are $1895 And hand-wired too! I am shocked the guy was selling for so low.

I don't mean to rub your GAS in, but for a steal like that, I can't imagine not buying it. Man, that sucks though, but you still do have plenty of great amps right ;\)

You turn the knob up for distortion, back it down for clean. It's a 5 watt amp, and supposed to be made you you can crank it up ans get power tube distortion without pinning yourself and your audience against the back wall.

The new Mini-Plex amps have some newer features...the big one being London Power Scaling...which uses voltage control to let you pick your power levels without any negative affect on the tone.
It sounds the same at 1-5-8 and 11. \:\)

But even that earlier Mini-Plex was a steal at $700.
What can I say...I probably took about 15 minutes too long to think about it.
They main reason I held back deciding was because I had j-u-s-t purchased a Dr.Z Z-Best 112 cab to go with my Dr.Z Route 66 that I got a few weeks back.
It's the exact same black color and salt-n-pepper grill...so I couldn't pass on that. I got it for $360 shipped (they go for $500 plus shipping). It's not brand spanky new...but as close as you can get.

So that's why the Mini-Plex slipped out of my hands... \:\(

Well, the Rt.66 is still a great amp! \:\)

I was also thinking about getting one, its down between the Mini-Plex 112 and the Tiny Terror Combo. It's very hard to choose. \:\(
