Yamaha KX-88 -- about to be trashed, keys sticky but fixable

A couple of years ago I took my beloved Yamaha KX-88 out of storage only to find that some of the keys were sticky. It is cosmetically in excellent condition, and electronically works fine as far as I can tell. I am the original owner. Apparently the adhesive that holds the counterweights inside the key bottoms started to leak out and form a sticky goo. Why I don't know. It was not subjected to extreme heat, or humidity, or anything else. I set the board aside thinking I could fix it by taking the keys out, cleaning the goo, then putting them back in. I bought the service manual, and it wouldn't be too tough. Never got to it, never will, now I'm cleaning out my studio and this has to either go to someone who likes these kinds of projects, or it gets trashed (which would hurt). Yamaha doesn't make these keybeds anymore.
I'm in Orange County, Southern California. Even though for someone else this would be a fine board with some time and cleaning, at this point for me it's a boat anchor, so I'll take a "for parts" price for it. Less, just to see it go to a musician instead of in the dumpster. Best if you could pick it up, because it's 75 pounds.
Let me know asap, otherwise it's toast.

Neil, did you actually take it apart yet and confirm your theory about what's causing the stickyness, or is it still just a theory? The reason I ask, is that about 5 or 6 years ago, I bought a used KX88 (which I sold about a year later) just for the hell of it, to see if all the good things I'd heard about it over the years were true. They were, for the most part, by the way! When I got it, the keys were sticking, it sounds like yours is doing the same thing mine was. I'm not much of techy type, but I took mine apart, it was pretty easy to do, the top has a big long piano-keyboard-lid-style hinge. I didn't have to remove any keys or anything - I just wiped it down inside with a damp cloth, and it worked OK after that - Maybe that's all yours needs?

I worked on mine a couple of months ago, and took pictures of the entire operation.
Like Floyd said they are not that had to take apart and the entire action can be removed and cleaned without having to take apart every key.

Sounds like Neil doesn't want it and someone should take it and fix it up. I hope he finds someone.

Hey, THANK YOU very much, after reading Floyd's post and considering that this KX was my FIRST major midi purchase, I decided to keep it. I responded directly to him, should have done it here.
Hey Chad, is there anywhere I could access your pictures? They'd be so helpful.
I've done a few things on it in the past, and my main issue is how to get those little flat metal springy items back in when putting a key in. That's what's been keeping me from tackling this job -- it's so kludgy every time I try it. Do you have any hints for this part?
Thanks much Neil myspace.com/altereddominant
