Hey there, I will be moving into a new house in the next few weeks. Sadly, its only a long term rental, so I dont want to do anything too permanent, or so permanent I can't fix prior to the end of the lease. Additionally, the studio must be in the garage, as all the other rooms are taken. Its demensions are 18' 1/2" x 20" I just want a basic 2 to 3 room design, Drum/Control/Vocal or Control/Studio. Any suggestions on some inexpensive options? I plan on building a wall in front of the doors, but am wary of which materials I should use. I plan on doing some basic soundproofing with Auralex Wedges, bass traps, etc. on the doorless walls and apply as much weatherstripping, joint-work as possible. I am also concerned with the temperature as I live in texas and it can get pretty hot in the summers, I want to know if its possible to have some circulation without picking up ambient volume, and internal temperature gradients. Help Me! Im not looking for professional sound here, just good quality home recordings.
Thanks, Eli

first, read and understand all this: http://www.ethanwiner.com/acoustics.html#top
then after a week read it twice for a better understanding.
My studio will have almost the same dimension(18X22X8), but i prefer having the control room in the same room as the studio so i have more than the 2500 cubic feet needed for proper sound quality. If you cut the room, you will definitely have a lack of space in both room. You will understand all this in the link to Ethan website. Remember that accoustic treatment is a correction to your room problem and not a magical process. If your room is real bad, you will be able to have something good, if your room is good, you will have something wonderful.

I just want a basic 2 to 3 room design, Drum/Control/Vocal or Control/Studio. Everything Franky said is valid. I also prefer his approach of having everything in one room. Especially if you plan to record mainly yourself and friends. It's better to have one large room than two rooms, with each too small to sound good.
