Hi guys! I'm new to this great forum. I see a lot of you know about room insulation...maybe you could help me on this one if you feel like it : )

I've read M. Winer's document about acoustic treatment. As I expected he mentionned to me that due to the small size of my listening and recording rooms, it would be better to make them both dead...

(they are 10'6'' by 9'2'' and ceiling is 7'6''. and other room 6'6'' by 9'2'' ceiling 7'6'')

I am planning to use Owens-Corning 703 and 705-FRK for this. I would like to cover all walls and ceilings with 703, and then just use 705-FRK for bass trapping in all 4 corners. But I am not sure if it could be better in some other ways...

Maybe a combination of 705 and 703 on the walls? or ceiling suspended 705 only? ... this is why I would be very pleased if you could help me a little on this one. I want the rooms to be as good as possible.

I need to mention that I don't mind spending a lot for the fiberglass, on the other side I also wish I will not spend money buying the expensive 705 FRK in mass quantity if I don't need it... And I import it US/Canada so it's extremely expensive, specially 705 due to its density!

Anyways that all guys! Sorry my message is a bit long...

Let me know if you can help
Thanks,

Francis Hehle

705 and 703 both work well. 705 is nicer to work with and a little better. But only a little better, and it costs twice as much. As long as your bass traps are at least four inches thick, 703 works fine.

Thank you so much! then I'll only buy the 705 for the corner bass traps, with 4 inches thick.

I forgot to ask, do I really need to cover the floor with carpet? Would it be possible to put some material like floating wood since any of it's reflections would be caught in my pannels?

Live rooms usually have a reflective floor, though carpet might be better for a control room.

I understand that the live room would have a reflective floor most of the time, but I was wondering if in dead rooms (listening and recording rooms) having a wood floor could make it sound better than a carpet floor. (I only ask because it looks better). If carpet would be better than wood, I would put carpet definately in both rooms. But again I am looking for dead sound, and I try to find out if the one reflection from the floor that gets lost in the fiber would affect the acoustic so that the room would not be considered dead anymore... : ) I hope I am writing this clear!

It depends on the type of instruments you plan to record, the size of the room, and so forth. If it's an all-in-one room you could have carpet at the mix end, and bare floor where you record. That's what I have in my 34 by 18 foot home studio.
