At the very least she needs a serious taint punch. Unless I was getting paid well I would have walked on that gig in the middle of the first set. There are few things more painful that standing on stage while some idiot jacks their jaw at the audience. Increasingly more painful is when it is obvious to everyone but the idiot doing the talking that no one gives a f%*k about the words coming out of their mouth. I despise people who feel the need to banter and talk to the audience. Especially after every song. Especially for lengthy periods of time. Screw you. I didn't come to listen to your dumb ass talk I came to listen to music. Unless this is “VH1 Story Tellers” STFU and play.

Don't hold back, Brian.

He's right, though. I'd leave that gig. If they're paying, then someone else will, too, and maybe with fewer hassles.

I guess she's never heard of "professionalism", that's why she told you to keep your mouth shut while you were both on stage.
Yeah, I'd quit.

Frank, that's a lousy gig. Commiserations, man!

I had a lovely gig on Saturday - not many there - but they loved every minute. Did the business, got paid, people danced, went home.

We hadn't played together for many months but you couldn't tell. The drummer played a blinder and I enjoyed it enough to forget I was actually playing a few times.

I even sang reasonably at times (although the bandleader had sense to turn my bv mic way down in the mix). Just once or twice I got carried away and forgot what a lousy singer I was but the crowd dug it anyway.

That's what we like.

I hate banter. People do not come to hear us talk.

Folk singers always seem to think that they should tell a story about the song before they sing it. It seems to be part of the performing style of the genre.

On the other hand, I heard a nationally-known folksinger whom I have known all my life sing a new song and by the end of the first verse I knew that he just left his wife of 30 years. No story or introduction was necessary. It was a well-written song. And very sad.

Played a bar called the Driftwood in Arizona. God-awful place. We got paid, but this was the only high point. The toothless clientele paid for beer with their social security money and then went out back to do crack. Then they would come back in and demand we, "play some Skynyrd!"

We hosted a jam session there one night and a jammer, a supposed friend of the guitarist, got so pissy he broke the lead singer's mic. He wanted to fight me next time for refusing to let him play with us at another, non-jam, gig.

As long as you get paid and have fun and no one gets hurt, there are no bad gigs. \:\)

In all candor, it didn't go ALL bad. We've booked a wedding out of the deal and potential private party. We took in over $50 in tips for two hours (more than all 8 weeks at the hotel). The abysmal acoustics actually played into our style. We're pretty low key, low volume and the 2 1/2 story entrance with the mable floor, glass wall, mezzanine and vaulted ceiling actaully gave us a little kiss of reverb enhancement as opposed to making everything muddy like larger, louder bands (my friend's band with the 300 lb. drummer and the deaf guitarist)

Nato - every town has a "Driftwood Cafe & Lounge". At our's they use their SSI to go out back and do meth.

Yuuuup. \:\)

One of the other 'worst' gigs I ever had was one we had to drive 2.5 hours north for, on Super Bowl Sunday, and played for a bar full of people who didn't want us there! Good times. :|

We played during the playoffs at a bar that had a big screen TV. We were annoying people. The bar owner told us to keep playing....?? We did... Strange place
