I seem to still have an issue with bass, the highs and mids translate well and mixing is much easier, however the whole low end seems a bit odd, seems like I have bass when I don't.

In anycase, my room is 12 by 12 three of the four walls are concrete and have 4 inch thick auralex mineral fiber absorbers on them, the two front corners have 6 inch thick of the same material from floor to ceiling.

Here is the thing tho, the back wall is thin wood and behind it (about 6 feet behind that) is a concrete wall, so im thinking the bass is traveling thru the back wall and hitting the back wall.

I can't put corner absorbers on the back corners because that wall is a giant book shelf.

My question is: If I put 2 inch auralex mineral fiber all along the back wall (on the back side, not the room side, but the opposite side) and another sheet of ply to keep it in, would that help with my bass response?

Can you measure the room to see what's really going on? I don't think 2" of anything will make a difference in the low end.

well I dont know how to measure the room, I downloaded a room measuring software for mac that's free but I could not get it work, and the other option is Fuzzmeasure pro which I have not gotten yet, I would also need a measuring microphone no?

Plus if I spent the money and found out my room was off kilter, how would that make any difference to what I would do to fix it? I know the issue, there are irregularities in the low end from about 300 down, if I find out exactly what peaks and dips there are...how will that tell me what to do next?

Wont the solution be the same (more bass traps, helmhotlz resonators etc etc)?

Why do you have a thin wooden back wall with 6ft of space before a concrete wall? How thin is a thin back wall? Can you go into the space behind the wall to see how much bass is escaping? If that wood is too thin it could be resonating. But I am not sure about that so I will let Ethan or someone with more wisdom than me comment on that.

Anyways a helmholtz resonator won't help if you don't know what frequency your problem is at. But you are correct that the only way to fix your low frequency problems is probably going to be adding bass traps. Remember you have 12 corners in a room.

Having the ability to measure can still be valuable though. You could measure the response of each speaker individually. It would be nice for us to see how bad your response is and what your waterfall looks like. Also it might help show what is going on with your "1k warble".

Plus it doesnt cost that much. All you need to buy is a Behringer ECM for about $50. Or if you dont already have a mic pre-amp you can buy the M-Audio Audio buddy with two microphones for $100. I believe room eq wizard works on the MAC and that is free.
