Well I measured my room, but there appears to be some comb filtering in the higher frequencies. Is this comb filtering? My room is 19x12x8ft. I have the speakers width-wise since this is my living room. Are there any other possible causes of this? Is wall treatment my only solution? Will I be able to fix this?

Thanks
Jeff

Thanks for the precise answers. I guess it is easy when people ask specific questions.

Is treating first reflection points the only way to treat comb filtering? Do flutter echoes contribute to comb filtering? I can definately hear some echoes. Can you measure flutter echoes?

The reflection points I will treat are the front wall, side walls, and back wall. I am hoping things will be acceptable without treating the ceiling. And of course I will be treating as many corners as possible with as thick of material as possible(The measurement was taken with two 8ft tall corner wedges in place).

For surround sound do I need to worry about the reflection points for all five speakers? Is there any extra treatment necessary for the front or back wall to deal with SBIR?

Jeff

Comb filtering is a broad effect and it happens at bass frequencies too. But you need to treat the reflection points regardless.

You can measure flutter echo by clapping and listening. \:D You can also measure it with the ETF software. You don't usually need to measure anything. Just treat all large opposing areas of bare surface.

Yes, surround speakers have reflection points too.
