Thanks Don.
It really drives home the point about pursuing your dreams as hard as you can...regardless of outcome...because you just don't know when your time will run out.....
It is terribly depressing, but the fact that a person dealing with his situation can still be optimistic about life really makes you wonder what right we have to be pessimistic. That's the whole point he's trying to make.

'XACTLY!!! $@it happens, and will happen to us all. What we make of it, makes all the difference.
Sounds simple, doesn't it?

Great stuff! This has been around the 'net a lot more lately. Someone sent me the Oprah appearance and I've seen other performances of this lecture on Y/T.
He says he doesn't want pity but I'm more concerned with the young children who will barely remember him but through these videos. He must be a great dad.
I just came back from travel and while browsing through past threads I found this gem. Thanks Don!
While very sad, it's also very touching and uplifting and it's never too late to get his message (better late than never, as they say).
You can see Randy's original lecture in its entirety here (where you can also download the entire thing as an flv file toward the bottom of the page). You can also buy it on DVD (which I just did) for only $7 from Carnegie Mellon.
I just found out that Dr. Randy Pausch was the founder of the wonderful Alice Animation program that teaches computer programming to kids (without them even noticing) through cool 3D animation. I've had personal experience with this Alice program and seen a few classes of elementary and middle school kids really enjoy it while creating great looking animations/video games and learning basic programming skills.
My hat's off to this humble and truly great human being and may his message reach many!!!
