There's an occasional trend in pop music to respond to other songs (once these were called "answer songs"). This was especially popular in 1950s/60s/ pop & country but can also be heard in R&B & rap (all those records a bout "Roxanne", for ex.); there's also a segment of rap, especially early on, wherein certain beats or samples were passed around. Another example of a certain type of response-song is "Route 66" with it's litany of place-names & "I've Been Everywwhere" by Johnny Cash, which basically does the same thing.
More intimately, one can hear in the work of some bands a sort of deflected communication to various members; compare the work of Lennon & McCartney during the Beatles career (& all 4 of them during the early 1970s).
One of the oddest examples of this sort of thing involves something a Dylan fan has brought to my attention: compare the Beatle song "Norwegian Wood" [Rubber Soul/1965] & the Dylan track "4th Time Around" [Blonde On Blonde/1966]. The melodic similarity will be conspicuous; somewhat less clear is the subject matter or what provoked the, um, parody.
Any thoughts on who/what/when/why ? Or examples of, uh, similar similarities ?

Erm... Eno's "King's Lead Hat" (Before And After Science) The title's apparently an anagram for "Talking Heads", which Eno was producing at roughly that time. The song is somewhat Talking Headsish too.
