Does anyone know of a centralized location for help on various probelms sending and receiving SysEx?

My specific problem:

I have tried dumping the current internal memory of my e-prime using
cakewalk home studio 2 but for some reason I get about 20K worth of bytes
and it stops. I click "done" in cake walk and get an error message stating
incomplete transmission. The e-prime says it is dumping the data and
appears to be working correctly.

I tried using freeloader software from syntaur productions and I get about 12K and it stops.

Thanks in advance,

Arnold

Hi Arnold,

Are you sure the dump isn't complete? The Cubase track probably won't stop recording(Logic doesn't) just because the dump is finished, and 20K is a lot of info.

AAR, about 10 articles down in this forum is a thread about a product called MidiOx. It's a universal midi editor/librarian that's highly regarded and free. Good place to store all your instruments provided your on a PC and not Mac. Here's the link http://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/1886668/page/1#Post1886668 .

Best, Paul

Thanks, Paully.

Cakewalk will not let me save the transmission. It actually states "incomplete" when I hit done and cancels the dump.

You may be correct about the transmission actually being complete. I didn't even check the contents of the dump in Freeloader as it was only 12K while Cakewalk was 20K. I'll try and look at it and see what's actually there.

I also recently downloaded MidiOx but got an error message when I tried to run the .exe
I noticed on the site about fixes for this problem but I haven't followed up on trying it yet. That's on the list.

Thanks again.

Mission accomplished...problem identified...

MidiOx was very helpful. By keeping the port activity window open I could see that not only did my dump mysteriously stop, but I would lose all activity thru the port. Even after I cancelled my partial dump, I could not get the PC to receive any midi transmission. I am assuming the driver on my sound card/game port was locking up or crashing. I'm only running windows 98 and it has not been connected to the internet for years so no updates have been performed in a while. Maybe updating the driver will help.

I lugged the old e-prime upstairs to my bedroom and connected to my newer HP PC and it worked perfectly.

Thanks again Paully and MidiOx.

Glad you got it covered. Any thanks belongs to Tonyegg. He turned me on the MidiOx about a month ago. Thanks again Tony.
