These should get equal time.
This is the first eight or A of infamous rhythm changes.
Yeah, it's been played to death but you can always find new and interesting harmonic twists on it.
The LH is meant only has possible reference. Make up your own voicings and rhythm or no voicing. Again, the chord symbols only suggest a sound. Taking one or two bar phrases and transposing to all keys maximizes your practice time. Always experiment with the rhythm of the phrases as opposed to just stringing eighth notes together.

Good stuff. I'd like to know if you got the B section. I'm always interested in what other players use. One of the most impressive soloing on the B section is by Roland Hanna on his solo piano recording.

You can do this with octave unisons/parallel octaves ala Phineas Newborn, OP, Chick, Gonzalo, Terry Trotter, Geoffry Keezer or even better...YOU! Make it your own.
For those not hip to that terminology, it's playing the line with both the left and right usually 2 octaves apart, although there's certainly no rule...I've heard Keith do unisons an octave apart..it's a different effect for sure

Hey Dave, sorry 'bout the lack of input. I'm thinking about it - lines for the day... line for the day...
OK, instead of specific lines - this is a little sick or cool, depending on tastes.
Vamp on a funky groove in any key, but let's take the key of F major. When the vamp starts losing interest (after a few hours or seconds), then try playing bluesy unison lines in the LOWER octaves of the piano this way:
You're in F... but play right hand blues lines in G (whole step above the F key), and mimic the same funky blues lines below in your left hand in Db (the flat five of G).
Useful? Not very. Fun? Maybe. Fun With Atonality. Whatever lines you choose, those would be my lines for the day.

And here's an 'old' sounding, sort of forgotten set of chords you can occasionally use on rhythm changes. Instead of just voicing these chords, you'd play lines through them.
On the 'A' sections, instead of the basic chords Bb, G7, Cm7, F7 in the first two bars, you can play over Ab minor7, Db7, Gb7, B7... resolving to Bb for the next cycle of fifths. It gives it a minorish sound with a Monk like quality to it. To be used sparingly, not over and over.

OK, here's a tone row that in this key works nicely over a ii V I in C, but of course works great in any sort of vamp or groove context. I actually got the first 2/3's of this from a book on pentatonics I think, but the author didn't take the thing to it's natural conclusion as a tone row. I included an restatement of the opening 4 notes just to show its continuation

Dave, thanks for all the good food for thought. I'd love to contribute, but I'm just too busy! Only thing coming to mind in a hurry is Monk starting his 'Rhythm-a-Ning" solo with F#7, then proceeding in fourths (B7, E7...) until reaching the Bb at the end!
However, tonight I could post some of my reharms - in that other thread maybe.

I also have been cooking some stuff up at the piano this morn, but I have a bunch of hip hop tunes to learn for a rehearsal tonight, and I have to work at 1!! So I'll have to wait until another day prob.

I'll use Tenor player legend Johnny Griffin's saying...."call it whatcha wanna". A mix of D Augmented, Eb Harmonic Minor, Gb Major scale.
I just like the sound...

Very nice melodic ideas - a bit 'ethnic' in flavor, maybe.
Since this is about lines, here's a latin/funky version of "Giant Steps", to be played in straight eights at a medium/fast tempo. The eight bars at the bottom are used as intro and before the final theme.

As I play through these ideas it occurs to me that much of this sound is simply D diminished over D major, ie an unresolved I chord. The thing is though there isn't really any pull back to the major I chord, so I guess considering it an unresolved I doesn't quite hit the mark. There are some mighty tasty sounds in there though!

Yeah, that's the same reason I hesitated to call it straight diminished. That's kind of why I suggested D dim / D major. The F# suggests a resolution to the diminished sound. However that doesn't explain a C natural really.
My next order of business is to go apply some of those sounds in different keys and throw them into a couple tunes. I'm thinking it would be best to throw on something with some sustained major key center tonality, maybe Bye Bye Blackbird or even a blues.

I was vamping Ad Nauseam tonight over an Ebm7/Ab7 in 3/4.
I came up with this quirky line and strange sounding structures over those bass lines. It's kind of ear stretching so maybe try playing a regular Ebm/Ab7 vamp for awhile before entering this territory.
It's somewhat bright but practice slow before goosing the tempo up. To make matters more weird...it's a 10 bar phrase.
Sorry...still no audio...but tomorrow's another day.

Here are some different possibilities for lines over a standard be-bop based chord progression. It's actually bars 5-8 of Bud Powell's Parisan Thoroughfare.
I always find it challenging to incorporate the be-bop language with
modern melodies. One place I always work on, is going up to the 4 chord (Bb7) then up a half step to the B Diminshed.

Check out example #4...how the time of the phrase is actually delayed or behind the beat on measure 2. This is a device Bird made famous and is still used today. It gives the music a different sort of flow, like it's catching up without falling behind.
This progression is the same has "rhythm changes" as well.
